I'm going to purchase new Cooper Discoverer A/T3s this week (FYI there seems to be an $80 Visa card in it for you if you're in need of new tires from August 24th to Sept 1st) and I'm interested in replacing my suspension too. I have 120k miles on the original springs and shocks, and I'm curious to know if anyone has some advice on a stock replacement product. I'm not looking for a lift. I have a CJ7 for that. I've never replaced suspension on a car in my life, and I'm not sure what to expect. I generally just drive them until the end. The Jeep bounces a bit and roles a bit on the highway, so since I was planning on keeping this Jeep until it dies, I would like to get it back in shape or better. Will I be looking at all new springs, struts, and socks or do most people just replace shocks? I was thinking about Munroe Shocks since I live in Michigan, but I'm not even sure they're owned in Michigan anymore. Any input would be appreciated. |

Old Man Emu way better then stock all the way around and will last alot longer. Plus your ride quality will go way up if done right. And if you decide you want to lift it just a few little mods and you will have 2.5 to 3 inches. |

If you DIY remember the fronts are coil over shocks so unless you buy a fully assembled unit you will need access to a coil spring compressor to disassemble/assemble those units safely. |

Thanks for the tip. Do you think I could get away with replacing just the strut inside the spring? Same with the read. Do you think I would notice an improvement with just shocks? |

yes you can replace the shock inside the front spring. you can also order from RockAuto - assempled front units - although I think they're Monroe's or something Personally I have the OME - and it works great - but it is a lift - the springs are 1 1/2" longer than stock and because they're stiffer - you get ~ 2 1/2" of lift. note - if you order pre-assembled - make sure they're for the CRD - CRD front springs are 410lbs/in and gasser fronts are 300lbs/in -rears are the same (OME CRD springs are 500lbs/in) |

You will only get and 1.5 over stock height lets be specific there. Now depending on how much your jeep has sagged over the years depends on how much difference you see. The OME set up will lift to 1.5 inches over stock and give a better ride and longer life. If all you want is a better ride go with the medium rate springs if you want a better ride with body armor (front bumper, sliders, and skid plates) go with the heavy wieght springs. |

Bilstein is an excellent replacement for the stock shocks. I, like you, wanted to keep the stock ride height. Ordered mine on line and had a local Jeep service center install them. I was shocked - no pun intended - at the handling and ride improvement! Many advise replacing springs at the same time. My ride height was OK so I replaced only shocks to save $. Ordered mine from Shock Warehouse, there may be other good sources, too. |
