 Post subject: cutting out and smoking

i was driving home from work today and my crd started cutting out and loosing power. Everytime it would cut out a cloud of black and blue smoke would be left behind any idea of whats going on

You probably need to provide more information about the circumstances such as speed, terrain, what were you doing when it cut out. Cutting out when pulling away from a stop is a different matter than when driving down the road at 60mph or when accelerating.

That said what's the age on your fuel filter and have you checked for air in the filter?

From the sound of it... it may be a stuck EGR valve... Not sure why anyone still runs the EGR valve, haha. I have the ORM myself. The GDE tune is also a good option, but a bit expensive for me at the moment...
