What is the best way to service the coolant on a 05 CRD??
thanks everyone I bet it is very simple its just hard finding info on this subject

The drain is a funky hex key fitting at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side IIRC; the drain vent is on the top of the radiator. The FSM has a section on draining. What they do NOT tell you is that you have to make a serious effort to properly fill the thing.

I opened the small hose that crosses the top of the motor and vented there as well as the top of the radiator, closed that hose, left the radiator vent open and sucked on the overflow tank with a shop vac, closing the radiator vent, and continuing to pull a vacuum, then refilled at the tank and vented again at the radiator. Have seen no coolant level drops inthe 6 k miles since then.

FYI 1) be sure to use HOAT coolant and demineralized water and 2) the system is self purging just like any other radiator system with an expansion tank since the 1970s (fill, drive, coolant expands and pushes air into overflow tank, coolant cools and pull coolant overflow back from tank, check coolant level in tank on firewall on cold engine add as needed, should have to do only a couple of drive cycles) and 3) remember the coolant tank on the firewall is effectively the top of the radiator and the cap on that tank is the radiator cap.
