Post subject:  turbo noise

hello guys, it's been a long time since last time I wrote here, but I read often, I need your help, I'll explain what happens to me, when the jeep is cold and I move uphill hear a noise from the turbine, type a ..... shooooat, at the release of the gas and sometimes even when the throttle is fixed at around 1800 rpm or 2000 rpm, if I get speeds over 2300 rpm the noise disappears, I must also note a lack of torque when I feel that noise, there are no dtc, what I've noticed, is that if unplug the electrical connector of the eGR solenoid, my egr is activated by vacuum, the noise disappears, the jeep has a better shot. but it produces a metallic noise like as if the oil does not arriveat the turbo. this noise is my impression and it is ok?

ha , the noise seems ..... air that comes into the exhaust behind the turbine...........it's possible ?

thank you very much

Marco from Italy

Marco -

You being in Italy, could you get the codes scanned and report back to us please? I would think there would be better VM support there, but one just never knows.

It sounds like your EGR/FCV is stripped out, but the codes would tell a better story.

thanks hexus for you'r reply , I have no error codes, apart .......... rarely a p0299, which ultimately fails to appear after having lubricated the actuator of the turbine, but I do not know if it is connected to the turbine actuator or the egr

Glad you got it fixed! Obviously the EGR is a bad device around the world, not just for the USA.

Glad to hear you have resolved the problem, but if it comes back remember that the Export model EGR vacuum source is also the turbo controller vacuum source, exactly where were you unplugging the electrics? You maybe disabling the turbo vane controller, and that noise your hearing maybe very similiar to the problem that some others have had recently. It might be wise to remove the airbox to turbo hose and check the turbo centre free play just to eliminate possible turbo failure as a source of the noise.
