They're an integrated unit. Basically you have the lug nuts, then take the caliper off then the axle nut, then 3 torx or star bits on the back side to take it off(Can't recall which). There's an ABS sensor wire that you have to unplug. Really you can do it in your garage/driveway with a good floor jack. (BE SURE TO CHOCK THOSE WHEELS!!!)

AM Auto Parts has a pair for under $100 that are good quality.

It isn't that bad, the best tip I can give you is to pay attention to where your ABS wire comes out when you disassemble it, pay close attention, because if you put it on wrong you'll foul the caliper and have to take all that back off again and move it. Don't ask how I know....

Do the 05 and 06 use different hubs? If so, whats the difference? My 05 needs new hubs, but my 06's are holding up fine.

125,500 miles on my 06 and no bearing/hub issues yet. Have run into few other CRD owners who don't believe me that mine are doing fine. Funny how much variability in longevity and/or quality of parts exists.

They should be the same Jay.

I changed mine at 85k, right one was making all kinds of noise. I kinda subscribe to the old headlight theory that if 1 is bad the other can't be far behind, so I changed both.

Wheel unit bearing aren't that difficult to replace. The hardest part will be getting the old one out (with some gentle prying & tapping).

The wheel unit bearing for the Jeeps with ABS are more expensive.

Just did mine at 102K like you said it's easy. What did you mean "foul the caliper"? I also took your recommendation on the AM hubs great price 1/3 of the Timken which I have had fail in very short time. Both are made in China.

If you rotate the bearing 1 screw wrong either way, the caliper hits the ABS unit wire and you can't get it on.

Don't ask me how I know... It appears you paid closer attention than I removing yours.

Heh.

I couldn't figure out which one of the new ones was which. finally got a part number on the box that matched. did you have this problem?

Timken is NOT made in China. Made in Canton, Oh.

I have no clue where specific Timken products are made but will simply comment that while their headquarters is in Canton, OH they have manufacturing plants world wide including 6 in China.

I have toured their plant in Canton. That's where the base stock steel is made then some machined there and other stock sent out to other machine facilities. Their factory in China is for Chinese market use, not exported yo the US. Iirc

Edit: I just looked it up that koyo has bought some of Timken it appears. Interesting. They did close one plant in Canton, but are adding a huge addition to the Faircrest facility. I guess we can never keep up with all the corporate changes.

You really don't know where they are made until you buy them and read what's on the box. The ones I bought were made in China according to what was on the box. I would guess that some are and some are not just like almost everything now days. It's almost impossible to buy everything made in the USA but I try to as much as possible. The biggest thing is price when you can buy something for 1/3 the cost and it lasts just as long how can you say no? After all it is American companies going to China to get their stuff made so they can compete on the world market.
