Oil filters someone said ph8 fits?

I know from my wrangler years a ph8 fit 4.0 even though called for ph16. Does that mean ph16 works with our motors? Sure would save mucho hassle and Mopar ph16 is available Walmart. I went to napa only had platinum $13 or Silver $2.30. Ended up with silver hope that's ok. Sure would be nice toss on ph16 and be done

Why would you want to use a Fram filter? Might as well just wad up some coffee filters and jam them into the oil passage.

Mobil 1 M1-301 is a perfect fit for a slightly-oversize filter size, and bumps the proper oil fill to 7 quarts exactly. Drive on!

NAPA Gold 1515 does exactly the same thing, cheaper usually as well.

I think he's in the wrong section though, because he said 4.0 and he's talking about a TJ/YJ/CJ with that engine.

No no I am talking CRD filters wondering why we can not use same filter that comes with 4.0s or 2.5s. Fatter size and not as long. Your right fram sucks but was talking about size. Did some reading online saying ph8 fits or ST8 kinda shocked. Not happy with mopar factory part had leaks and funky metal particles in side new filter. At $15 you would think VM would be best option

Both the Mobil and NAPA filters mentioned are fine as is the WIX 51515 and all 3 support a 7qt full fill. Extended oil change intervals are fine for those with the nerve and who do regular oil analysis I suppose but I'll stick with ca. 6k mile intervals given that I'm lucky to drive 6K per year now that I'm retired.

if you are paranoid going for oversize then the smaller m201 or Wix /Napa 1516 would do the trick for you they are identical to stock filters.

I run purolator pure one pl25230. Search my posts... I posted a cut away of the Mopar and p1 filters and they were nearly identical.

Size is not everything. Check the micron rating of what you are buying. Some of those bigger wix/napa filters have a 32 micron rating vs 21 micron for the smaller filters.

I prefer not to use the oversize filters. I have seen and heard of engines oil starving due to them. also you are more likely to hit the over sized one during off-road. I use the MFG size.

EEEK... thanks. This last oil change I did down size because I have to remove skid plate to get it on and off, good link!

I don't think you have to worry about oil starvation since the filter is below the oil level in the pan. (Did you know that you can "Almost" drain all the oil by just removing the oil filter?)
