I can live with a cel though. And a block off plate.

That would cause it to fail an MOT here in the UK, under the new MOT rules. There was talk in this thread about a free tune that eliminates the ECU code/s thrown up when you blank the EGR off...Anyone know what it is?

Hi, I am curious about blanking off the EGR valve but I have a few questions...
1) If I blank it off would that cause an ECU code issue which would flag up when I take it in for it's next MOT?...If that happens then it would almost certainly fail the MOT and I would have to reinstate the EGR before it could pass.
For some it does not trip a hard DTC when simply blanking off the EGR. But there may be a soft code set/stored that could be seen by a good scanner.
I do believe some have reported getting the P0101 code occasionally when a blank is installed.
Not being familiar with what a MOT test is and what all it involves it would be hard to answer your question in detail. But there are tunes available that will disable all the DTC's for EGR removal

2) What is a GDE tune and how does one apply it?
It is a tune you purchase from Green Diesel Engineering. http://www.greendieselengineering.com

3) Does blanking off the EGR improve MPG?
It may or may not depending on your driving habits. Some on LOST have reported a slight increase.

4) Is it illegal to remove the EGR valve altogether, as some here have done?
Tampering with any emission control device is illegal by most government standards, but if you live in an location that does not require emission inspections as many do, then removing the EGR/FCV system is an owner decision. Quite a few on LOST who have installed the Weeks elbow system and one of the tunes to disable the DTC's that result from the devices being removed, and who have to undergo routine emission inspections; they have reported being able to pass the inspection with no problem since the Weeks Elbow Kit looks almost factory and is totally visual and the tune fixes the electronic side of the inspection.

The MOT inspection (British version) is very thorough, including everything from the air filter to the expiration date and tread depth on the tires. They would certainly find the weeks elbow, but if the EGR were blanked off both ends of the delivery pipe, and none of the blanking material left shiny, and the FCV valve removed, it might be possible they could overlook it.

Does anyone have dimensions for the round plug to put in the exhaust maninfold where the egr pipe hooks up to the exhaust manifold?

As my EGR conversion thread discussed, blocking off EGR - which I had done, negates the EGR turbo surge protection feature of the stock and GDE software. It's better to allow it to operate but run the GDE tune then you can remove the pipe and block the gases at the manifold, thus retaining the surge blowoff function.

Question; are you saying that blocking off the gas inlet to the EGR will disable this blow-off function? I thought that the waste-gate on the turbo performed that function? Should the EGR supply pipe be blocked at the exhaust manifold end and leave the inlet to the EGR valve open? My Dodge Cummins has no EGR, therefore no blow-off protection so is it really needed on such a small engine? Trying to make sure I understand all of this. :?:

The crd doesn't have a blow off valve, it's a VNT turbo so no need for blow off. Only older technology uses blow off turbo.

You can tap the manifold with a pipe plug tap and then screw a pipe plug into it to seal if off. (It is hard to get to with the exhaust manifold on the engine while it is installed in the vehicle.
or
You can simply make one out of thick steel washer, put a bolt/nut in it, grid it down to the correct size to fit the OEM clamp, and then spot weld the bolt/nut so it cannot come apart.
That's what I did on mine and have been running it like that since 2013 with no issues.
If you need one made for you, PM me. I can make you one.
