That is a one hole gasket if you haven't gotten a replacement yet. Keith from GDE sells just the head gaskets without the bolts if you are looking to do the ARP studs.

I actually installed a one hole gasket thinking the hole in the corner was the indicator of the gasket. No issues have arise doing this thankfully. Runs like a champ.

Thanks, Keith is out of 1 hole gaskets, only has 0 and 2 hole on hand. I've got one on order though IDParts. It was only about $20 more with bolts.

Oh that figures that is Keith is out of the one you need. The gasket kits must of come down in price. I could have sworn the price was significantly more. Not to bad then.

For a replacement head, I can suggest car-part.com for boneyards, IDparts or VMdieselspecialist.com for new. VMspecialist is out of the UK however, so the shipping and exchange rate aren't going to do you any favors.

He's in the UK so that's the best option.

Spoke to them last night, ordering it today, could have got one from a junk yard, for around the same price, but the VMdieselspecialist has been pressure tested and skimmed (machined) by the people who know the engines, so I feel much better..

Hoping to get it tomorrow and maybe back on the road at the weekend, time dependent..

Also while am in there changing WP, Thermostat (was showing low), Heater Plugs, TB + idlers, Serpentine belt and anything else the bank manager (aka, wife) will let me get away with ...

Cylinder head now ordered.. £260 ($415) + taxes @20% could have been worse I guess, but painful enough..

Spoke to the VM Specialist again this morning and he said they always have 2 heads in stock, so if you are stuck for one in the US I can recommend these guys..

Valve seals came in. For future reference, part number is 5066775AA.

You'll need 16, I found them at MoparPartsAmerica.com for 1.98 each or 31.68 a set.

Got to work on the Jeep today, first time in 3 week. Picked up the head a week ago Saturday, but was out of town all last week. Finally starting re-assembly.

1. Flushed the EGR coolant circuit and refilled with fresh 50/50 coolant.
2. Installed a 90 hose fitting and clamps to make the EGR coolant circuit a closed loop.
3. Installed a M12x1.5 bolt and copper washer in place of the coolant fitting in the head that feeds the EGR. blue Locktite and Torqued to 25 ft-lbs.
4. Eliminated the Y hose fitting that connects to the EGR coolant circuit with a straight hose repair fitting.
5. Used one of the old bolts with a couple of grooves to chase the threads for the head bolts.
6. Did a final cleaning of the block, used a vacuum to suck up any dirt and grit.
7. Installed the new 7v metallic glow plugs in the head, torqued to 110 in-lbs.
8. lubricated the cylinder walls with fresh oil.
9. Installed the new head gasket and placed the head in place
10. Finger fit the ARP studs and set the bolt height using the nut as a gauge

Hopefully I'll get to put some more time in this week so I can get the head bolts torqued and the intake and exhaust manifolds reinstalled.

Day didn't start out so well. Had the brake line to the rear brakes on my S10 crack and dump all my brake fluid on the driveway. Had a buddy's shop replace the line while I was at work.

I did get an opportunity to work on the Jeep when I got home.

1. Competed install of the ARP studs and torqued everything down using the sequence in the FSM
2. Installed the exhaust manifold and gasket
3. Reconnected the EGR tube to the exhaust manifold
4. Installed the turbo.

Back to it. I've been on the road for work for the a couple of weeks finally got a chance to work on Ol' Blue.

Tonight I got the turbo oil supply and return lines installed, New Sgt. K thermostat installed, intake manifold is on and torqued. The manifold took the most time to get everything out of the way and get the manifold down without displacing the rocker arms.

Tomorrow I'll install the FCV installed, all the plumbing put back together and hopefully started by the end of the day.

WOO HOO, Back in the saddle!! Ol' Blue is breathing again.

Took him for a short ride to fill up, and get up to temperature. So far so good.

Started up after bleeding the filter and cracking the nut on the fuel rail. Only a P1202 that cleared immediately and did not come back.

Saturday I'll take a little road trip to shake out the cobwebs.

Thanks! Getting this issue fixed is a big load off my mind. When's the next meet and greet?

Here is the setup I used to reassemble the Intake elbow back onto the intake manifold. this was with the FCV and CAC hose off and the alternator removed. Worked pretty well. When I disassembled it, I used Squeeto's method, crawled under the Jeep and used a couple of extensions to get at it.

This was ultimately easier IF you are pulling alternator and FCV.

1/4 ratchet
1/4 to 3/8 drive adapter
3/8 3" extension
3/8 to 1/4 drive adapter
1/4 universal
1/4 3" extension
socket
