Hey guys any ideas on what would cause a knocking noise from the rear of vehicle when turning left only. Normally heard when making a left turn at an intersection or so and I'm off the gas. Thanks |

U-joint or bad upper ball joint? Do you have limited slip diff? |

06 did not have limited slip only stability control. I'd add look at lower control arm, brakes on that side (including emergency), and wheel bearings to bugnout's suggestions |

U-joints were replaced about 15,000 miles ago. It doesn't have that chirping sound of a u-joint though. Hmm I'll have to check the upper ball joint. The rear control arms were replaced not to long ago with new ones from the factory recall. I checked the brakes but didn't inspect the parking brake. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll check those items out. I should get some audio of the noise I hearing to help. Mark |

Use a long pry bar on the ball joint that is on top of the diff. If it has over 100K, it will have slop in it. Replace with OEM only. DOC |

Hey dragging up an old post here but wanted to update on the knocking noise on my Jeep. After changing out the rear u-joints and checking the rear upper control arm I found out the issue. It was my muffler contacting the frame. Weirdest thing and explains why I only heard it turning left. Slight adjustments on the hangers and all is well now. Mark |
