Here is an interesting topic and since now I have some miles and experience on these I now have Treadwright tires on the CRD and my TJ and I am happily reporting excellent service and performance. Yep I know everyone has some strong opinions and will voice them but let me report why and how and what has happened as I use this fine product.

Yes if you start by saying " You are going to kill yourself " and " for a few dollars more you get new tires " I really do not want to hear it cause I have done a lot of research and soul searching and now since I pulled the trigger have no remorse or regrets.
On the KJ One orders thru Internet and took five business days and these are on Michelien carcasses. Balanced them at independent shop at $8 each. Found out later Walmart will also balance for $8 ea.

On 2006 KJ CRD: 215 85R 16 E 5x

Have 8000 miles and tread still looks new. No out of balance feel, tons of highway usage and have run speeds up to 98 MPH and constant speeds of 70 to 79 MPH. The CRD can get to 100 MPH plus real fast and easy. Lots of stop and go also and real good off pavement too. I live in the desert so lots of this 79 MPH and stop and go has been with temps at over 100 degrees and lots of days here in Phoenix over 110 this summer.
You know when you can get that "man these tires are nice but I paid way too much" feeling-- well one doesn't get that feel just satisfaction of a good purchase.

These do not show origin carcass as the remold COVERS the whole tire bead to bead. I got these for the TJ because even the sidewall has extra meat for off roading strength. Just put these on less than 400 miles and they feel great! Very quiet on pavement, very balanced feel, top speed so far 70 MPH, no wobble, great handling, very good looks, very satisfied. Treadwright was running a late summer special and I got all 5 shipped for $550 fob to my dock at work.

When it came to tire replacing time and finding KJ tires the ones I wanted were pushing $180. And for the TJ $260.(the tread design on the 265 tire closely matches a B F Goodrich style). So yes pricing is a huge factor.
And yes I read the horror stories where a retread fails and sends a family in a SUV go flying off a cliff killing all on board and main fail factor was temperature (overheated tire) causing tire to fall apart. BTW conventional tires fall apart when stressed too. Did I already mention I already ran (prolonged) these tires at 80 MPH at temperatures over 110 degrees with no problems?
With these tough economic times keeping and maintaining these Jeeps require constant attention and costs do add up. Getting these tires are turning out to be a sound idea in keeping maintainment cost contained.
And yes I am aware of the load ranges on these tires and unusual size for the KJ but that is the result of again lots of research and I have used 215-85-16 on the KJ lots of miles before all this.

These were on my KJ when I bought it from the previous owner (former LOST member). He estimated to have about 15,000 miles on them (maybe more?) when I bought it. Had he not told me these were retreads, I probably would not have noticed at first glance. I have put over 6,000 miles on the Jeep since I bought it and have had no issues with them. For tires estimated to have over 20k miles on them, they almost look new. Tread wear is even on all 4 tires. Pressures have remained consistent.

While I haven't wheeled with them yet they have performed just fine on road and in very heavy rains. I will try and report back when I hit up some trails. The previous owner said they were fantastic in the snow - I will also try and report back when winter comes.

I would certainly consider going with another retread in the future. My only complaint is that these are heavy...but it is an E rated tire so that is expected. I also noticed there were a number of wheel weights on, but I should mention these are on aftermarket wheels.

I have the same tires for about 3 years and 25k(used them for winter driving). Still look new and are barely showing any wear. Cons, heavy at a load range E.

The retread industry will tell you that most tire treads that you see on the road are off NEW tires not retread tires like those of many decades past when people believe retreads commonly came apart on the road. Most tire failures are from tires that are ran low on pressure. The retread industry has found that new tires fail more often then retread do, because the retread process has gotten much better over the last 40 years. The casing inspection process has gotten much better, and a bad tire casing (core) is never be reused. Many trucking companies use there tire casings over and over again until the casing is no longer sound for reuse. We could save lot of money if we would retread the good casing of car and light truck tires like the trucking industry does.

I'm not sure the lightest casing of car tires would last like the heavy truck tires do. This would force the tire industry to make the the casing stronger & heavier, so that they can be use over and over. Just add new rubber.

The best system would be to covert your truck to run the railroad, then your MPG would go way up, because of the super low rolling resistances of a steel wheel on a steel rail. Just make sure you can communicate with the railroad so you don't meet and on coming train!
