Post subject:  ARP studs and coolant leak

I am experiencing some coolant and mileage loss on my CRD with 130K. From reading this board if it comes down to the HG I can try and re-torque the boltsbolts or replace them with ARP studs. Could the studs be installed without pulling the head off? Where can you purchase them? I really can't afford to have the engine torn down.

I am in the middle of the same fix. If you have to tear it down to the point where you can get to the bolts your only an exhaust manifold away from pulling the head. I felt that getting it out and doing an inspection, no cracks for me, and getting the surface cleaned up and flattened was worth it. I am now debating with myself if the ARP studs are worth the $370

Thanks for that info. Tried to get an estimate from a shop but they don't know.
So it's a pretty big job just to re-torque the head bolts? Do the camshafts have to come out?
I haven's seen a thread on this but it would be helpful.

Lots of info on this site just look around and you can self educate. Nothing tricky to the engine, some tight awkward angles on a few things but straight forward. When I was looking at this I got hung up on all the special tools. I bought the Sealy kit for $80 used and made a cam sprocket holder out of angle iron for $10. They worked great. A good break bar, a decent set of 1/4 and 3/8 sockets, a couple of end wrenches and odd onsy twosy things and your ready.
