Ok, so this happened a while back, and while I saw another member had the same issue, he posted it in another thread topic so it may not be easy for people to find who may have the issue.

My CRD is not my daily driver, so honestly I never was motivated to really dig into the issue, I just hooked it up to a trickle charger. To be frank I had installed the tow harness (two of them, I have a Limited without a Evic so get the special treat) and thats when I noticed the Jeep was draining the battery after 2-3 days sitting. I "assumed" (we know what that means right?) I had hooked up the power for the harness or brake controller to a always live instead of only live when on...one day I would open it all up and figure out.

I never had to.

More pressing than the inconvenience of the trickle charger was it was time to do the timing belt, tstat and I also had a set of the 5v Glow Plus and controller (MOPAR SET) that it all made sense to do at the same time (and hayden clutch).

So... did all that with the help of a friend who is a mechanic at a Jeep dealer..who never did a CRD before. he did have the Miller tools and LOST so with the help from Sir Sams EXCELLENT write up it went smoothly (I owe you a beer/meal). Would have been a full day without beer, but took 1.5... but i digress.

I expected the power drain issue to still be there. Anyhow I had to go away for a business trip, I was gone a week, I had not driven the jeep a good 5-6 days prior. I meant to hook up the trickle charger...I didn't. Came back and had to get in the jeep for something I had in the Jeep and the power locks worked great with the Fob,the interior lights were strong, now that i did not expect so I put the key in,and she started right up.

I now am 99.99998% sure it was the glow plug controller box like the other member had posted. I note he(I wish I could find that post) has made the controller box a service item. I intend to do the same at 50,000 miles or every 3 years.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I have a similar problem, although it is taking longer than a couple days to kill the battery. Recently got back from an 18 day trip to find the battery so completely dead that it took both a 900 amp jump box AND a jump from another truck to crank and start up, and this with a nearly new battery and alternator.

I will replace the glow plug controller box and see if that fixes the problem.

naturist I don't have a clue what the controller costs but there are a host of things that can produce a power drain that's enough to run down a battery over the course of xx number of days of down time. Before tossing parts in there you might check to see if there is a good auto electric shop in your vicinity, assuming you are not a better hand than me with electrical circuit testers, as they can likely find at least the circuit causing the power drain in fairly short order. I've dealt with 2 over the years 1) the glove box light switch was faulty so the light stayed on all the time and 2) a sensor (air bag or seat belt I forget which) under the passenger seat was draining power.

In theory there should always be a bit of active power with the ignition off to keep things like the radio clock running but that drain is not enough to kill a battery in any reasonable length of time (read months). If you know what you are doing you can use a tester to see if there is a higher drain and if there is then you can pull fuses one at a time and when the drain drops you have identified the circuit that's causing the drain but that's about as far as my limited knowledge goes.

@papaindigo, thank you, but I've been working on this one for a while. The glow plug controller is like $31 ($46 at dealer), so no big deal. And what I have seen is that the parasitic draw comes and goes. I've put an ammeter on it, and there is a 7 amp draw that is driving me crazy. It comes and goes, it will be on for a time, then off, then back on. I thought several times I've found it, only to be wrong. This possibility is one I've not tried and never thought of.

Ask any repair guy: intermittents can be hell to track down.

I am certain of what it is not. And if this solves the issue, I'll say so here. Ditto if the glow plug controller does not solve the problem, you'll hear bout it.

But a 7 amp draw that comes and goes will obviously suck down a whole entire battery fairly quickly. And current to glow plugs or leakage through a bad relay can easily hit 7 amps.

I think that was Hexus. I am not *certain* it is the glow plug controller, that is the Bosch one behind the battery. I think it was a body module or something to that effect. Hexus?

It was the only thing electrical that could have been my problem changed. Yeah the black box under/behind the battery
