Post subject: | Glow Plug Codes and Issues |
Hello, quick glow plug question. My sister has an 05 CRD and about a year ago we got a code for one of the glow plug control circuits being low. I went ahead and ordered 4 of the Italian replacement glow plugs but she never got them installed. Fast forward to now, her Jeep is in warm california and starts up just fine. I just did another code scan and now the jeep has p1261, p1263, p1265, and p1267 showing that all 4 glow plug control circuits are low. So my question is, are all 4 glow plugs bad and I should go ahead and have the new ones installed? Or is this some other kind of issue with a sensor or computer? I'm curious because the jeep starts easily and I wouldn't think it would if all 4 were bad. I've also got these other codes just in case they are relevant to the glow plug codes: p0299 BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR POSITIVE DEVIATION P0401-EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT NEGATIVE DEVIATION. P0725-ENGINE SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT . Thank You |

Replace those glow plugs like yesterday before tips fall off and cause engine damage as has happened. Yes in warm weather the vehicle will start just fine with glow plugs not working. As to the P0299 see my comments as to one possible cause at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77010&p=808355&hilit=+p0299#p808355 On the other codes go to Sir Sam's NOOB guide and follow the links to download a copy of the 05 and 06 FSMs (05 lacks diesel cooling data and diagnostics but has illustration keys while 06 is the reverse). Look up codes in 06 manual for hints as to issue. If she lacks GDE tune then get one but only after glow plugs get done IMMEDIATELY |

Thanks Papadingo, I'll get the glowplugs swapped out ASAP. Put her jeep on ORM, cleared codes, took it for a drive, and all that is left are the glow plug codes so I'm inclined to think that 299 and 401 were EGR related. 725 is a transmission speed sensor which is supposed to trip if idle rpm falls below 350 or exceeds 8000... didn't come back so I'm not going to worry about that one either. |

All four? Are you sure the harness isn't just unplugged? It would be worth it to measure the resistance of all the plugs at the harness before ordering new ones. |

I haven't checked to see if the harness is unplugged, that would be a good idea... I'll have to go dig out my ohm meter but that will be a good break from desk work tomorrow. I already have all 4 of the new plugs.... but yeah, a harness plug in would be easier! |

Oh yeah, just reread and noticed you already have the new ones. I've just never heard of someone having all four go out. Usually it's one or two. |
