I am looking for a picture and information for the person that used their CRD to tow their Lifted Wrangler on a tandem axle trailer. I was thinking of trying this during this summer. I get about 11-12 MPG in my LJ Rubicon so I figure I would be better off towing it. Any info would help, thanks in advance.

I towed my buddies lifted Toyota Tacoma with 33s a couple months ago.

Trailer = 2,200 lbs.
Truck = ~3,800 lbs.
Replacement engine strapped into bed = ~500 lbs.
The two of us 370 lbs.

So that's about 6,870 lbs. on the Liberty CRD. I climbed 6% grades through central Tennessee with no problem. I averaged 14 miles per gallon on the 4 hour trip. 75% of the trip was Interstate. I do have a couple of pics of the truck loaded if you want them.

Yes, the published towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. with 750 lbs. tongue weight. So if you break a part directly caused by towing more than this, AND the dealer can prove that you were towing over the limit, then they can void your warranty.

For what it's worth, I've never heard of any cases of a warranty being voided for towing too much or hauling too much. That's an extremely difficult thing to pinpoint.

In any case, the manufacturers ratings are conservative numbers to cover themselves and most trucks will tow/haul much more than their published ratings if done responsibly. I had no trouble keeping the Jeep going straight...no sway or handling concerns whatsoever. The key is I had trailer brakes to help stop the load, and I loaded the trailer perfectly evenly over the axles of the trailer.

It towed very well actually. I was even surprised at how well it towed. You'll want to flip overdrive OFF if you are not on the Interstate. Otherwise load that trailer evenly, make sure you have trailer brakes and a controller, and you'll be fine. The turbo-diesel is a workhorse.

OH...and I'll try to get some pics uploaded to my cardomain site tonight if you want to see how I loaded the 4x4 on there.
