I have 2005 and starting to get a growl/grumbling/groan/rumbling in the driveline. I have about 120K on it and have been impressed since I bought it. I have replaced the U-Joint and front shaft CV joints. The noise started about 6 months back and I started noticing it above speeds of 70mph. It seems to get progressively worse over time. Today, after it warms up I can hear it at speeds as low as 45 mph. I do not hear it when I let off the throttle. Even with slight pressure on the throttle I can hear it. I replaced the left HUB and that made no difference. We towed my 16' RV last weekend and it growled/grumbled/groaned/rumbled all the way there and back. Worked the CRD hard as we hit 30mph+ head winds in West Texas. Point is the trip didn't seem to make things worse, didn't make it better.....And that's my problem. I keep waiting for something to break or at least get to the point where I can definitely pin-point the issue. I am beginning to suspect the Torque Converter as it has the F37 Recall TC. I don't notice any chatter unless I really push it at low RPMS. At idle the engine sound perfect, rev it up to around 2500, unloaded, and it still sounds sweet. Bottom line is, once it warms up, as long as I have any pressure on the throttle the noise is there . I let off and it goes away. It almost sounds like a bearing going bad, hence why I changed out the left HUB. But then again if I let off the throttle it goes away immediately. It is also present if in 4WD. Any suggestions? For a quick-and-dirty test to see if this is the problem, get a couple 2"x1" circular rubber blocks from Home Depot. They are in the hardware aisle - usually in the drawers with other odd pieces like wingscrews and metric screws.

Jack up the tailhousing of the transmission just a bit while you are under there, and watch the crossmember with the mount. When there is space to insert the rubber, you know what comes next. If that solves your noise, you have found the problem.

Yep, been monitoring that thread one for the last 6-7 months. I don't have a wump wump or a throb. I did replace a wheel bearing, that didn't fix it.

However, I did read the one about the transmission mount. I inspected but did not "jack" with it. Will try the jack soon.
