My EGR pipe between exhaust and EGR is broken at the EGR valve and leaking. I also suspect the EGR cooler leaks antifreeze.

Anyone willing to tackle this? I don't mind wrenching or getting dirty, I just don't have much at my disposal in terms of serious tools, nor anywhere to work. I want to remove the valve and remove the pipe and block it off completely.

It's not too hard and does not require particularly unusual tools. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=59352&p=659410#p659410

If you have a shop and light to work by. I was going to bypass the EGR valve to see if I stopped my coolant loss, but after some time digging around down there, I realized it's beyond my capacity to do in my driveway, and I need to get it fixed ASAP.

See my mini writeup on the subject. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=75401&p=792398#p792398
Second picture shows only the plug I put in place of the steel nipple which is in the driver side of your cylinder head. The hose from that heads southeast to the EGR cooler. That hose is visible in the third picture. It is the one doubled back in the 4th picture.
I didn't go as far as you want to go and remove the egr pipe which goes around back of the engine. I was out of time to go and get that pipe welded off as a stub I could put back on the exhaust manifold.

Is there an easy way to get to that pipe fitting on the side of the block? I have tried to get to it from both front and rear and finely just cut the hose going to it and plugged it. I could see it when I had the alternator and its rear brace off but could see no way to get to that darn factory clamp. :furious:

I had everything on that side of the head removed while doing the glow plugs, so I did the coolant lines while I was at it. I don't see an "easy" way do to it other than that. :|

What's a good hose plug? The only thing I've ever managed to find in the past was freaking bolt.

The bit up by the thermostat's not a problem. But the other part down there sure is. Is it 1/2 or 5/8 inch?

Both hoses are 5/8 heater hose, very little pressure involved. I simply used a 5/8 barbed brass fitting with pipe threads on one end and to screw a cap on available at any hardware or builders supply store. Simply plug the hose and clamp it...
