I am on my second CRD.

My first CRD I totaled in a roll over and kept the engine and transmission.
My second CRD has 142,000 miles on it and has been average at best. Poor fuel mileage, etc.

I am swapping my first engine and installing it in the second Liberty.

Here's what I see being "must dos" for the 2.8

1. Timing belt and water pump
2. Blank off the EGR system
3. Clean the intake elbow as best possible.
4. Rockers and lifters???
IOW's try to return this engine to as close to a pure turbo diesel as possible.
How does the computer system react to these mods? Is the Green mod needed?

This engine has 93,000 miles on it.

Transmission, new Suncoast or equivalent.

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks,

Tom

I will buy the motor and tranny if you decide not to use it! Seriously, I am interested in either one, more so the low mileage one... PM me and let me know.

Thanks,

Nick

The two are not really that far off from each other in mileage. The swap would be a whole lot more work than just doing some upgrades to your existing engine. GDE tune, new rockers if it hasn't had EGR disabled since early on. Etecno drop in 7V metal glow plugs, Hayden 2905 fan clutch. Blank off the EGR system - for which you will need the GDE tune to cure the check engine light. Clean out the intake elbow while you're in there or remove the whole intake and have it professionally cleaned if you can stand the cost/downtime. ARP head studs - same story.
