i havent seen any other posts of this nature, so just thought i would put this out there. My CRD began bucking and shuddering at low speed last week. i took it into the dealer the next day, they replaced a seal or something that was blocking fluid flow and locking up the torque converter. That still didnt fix the problem, so they performed the software flash that i read about on this board. Still didnt fix the problem, so DC asked them to totally tear down the tranny, and if it needs more than 60% of the internals replaced, i will be getting a completely new unit. From what the technician said, it seems likely that i will get the new transmission. He also seemed amazed that it went bad, as it is the same tranny as in the Grand Cherokee, and he has never had to replace one. Glad we bought the better warranty, this is our only vehicle. Not a problem though, since they had Enterprise hook us up with a fully optioned '06 Grand Cherokee while our CRD is out of commission. We would feel guilty owning something like it, but the leather seats and sunroof are kinda nice. One final note, it is surprising, but the Libby actually has more headroom! I am 6'4", and fit fine in the Libby, but bump my head in the Grand if i dont tilt the seat way back. Wierd. :?: Disclaimer: I am not posting this to complain, just to see if others have had any similar problems. Knock on wood, my service department has been great to work with. :)

Was wondering if they gave any reasons for this coming apart. When I took mine back todey for TSB 18-009-06, they terms "torque converter" and "grenade" came up in the same sentence. Didn't sound encouraging.

It had a little over 18k miles on it. I havent heard back from them as to what they found when they opened it up. Hopefully i will know more tomorrow. Maybe it was a domino effect that started with the torque converter locking up?

What pushed up my visit was a drop out of gear situation. Came to a quick stop exiting/merging from one freeway to another. From a rolling stop, stomped on it, motor reved up but was like it was in neutral. Slammed hard, smoked the tires and away I went. It hit so hard that I thought the Explorer climbing my pipes ran into me. Almost like a sloppy downshift, have not been able to duplicate it.

I understand all CRD built prior to Jul 05 need to replace Trans Cooler, TQ and Trans filters.

Yeah, i just talked to the dealer again today. i guess they are waiting on a transmission cooler. They are replacing the cooler, lines, front pump and torque converter. here's hoping it all runs right when it is back together, i am sure neither they or i want to have them tear out the trans again and replace it after all this.

Mine is still at the dealer. From what they told me, sounds like they may have fried the trans control module when they did the reflash. oops.

Is there any documentation to back this up, TSB, recall, etc? Or is this word of mouth from the dealer? If this is for real, many of us have pre- 7/05 builds and would appreciate any info you have.
