Hey Guys,

I was looking to get a set of new OEM front springs, but I honestly got lost in finding out which one is the correct one for crd... this is what the parts fiche says:

18 SPRING, Front Coil
52128873AA 1 [ZCC,ZRC]
52128874AA 1 [ZCD,ZRD]
52128875AA 1 [ZCE,ZRE]
52128876AA 1 [ZCF,ZRF]
52128877AA 1 [ZCG,ZRG]
52128878AA 1 [ZCH,ZRH]
52128879AA 1 [ZCJ,ZRJ]
52128880AA 1 [ZCK,ZRK]

This is from page 33 from 05 parts fiche. Could you please let me know which one is the correct part # for our CRDs? I was not able to identify the ZCC-ZRK codes, I may have missed something, but after 30 minutes of searching, I would rather ask you than chase ghosts online...

Thanks a lot!

I cannot help you directly but:
1. as I recall the front springs on the CRD are "stronger" than for the gasser. My parts notes say Moog 81144 springs are what to use for stock height although I'm sure there are other aftermarket options. Might be simpler and cheaper to go this route.
2. I think the CRD and gasser share the same rear springs.
3. for what it's worth the CRD front setup is sometimes referred to as "strut" or a "coil over shock". It's not a McPherson strut rather it is a coil over shock. The point being that you will need access to a spring compressor to separate the spring and coil and to put them back together unless you buy a preassembled unit.

Thanks Papa, I'll see what answer I get from the Parts.com guys, and if they don't know, then I'll probably get the MOOGs. The spring is less than 50 bucks though, can't say it is expensive at all... I'll update the post is they send me the info.

Edit: this is why I was asking which one is the spring I need, I know our crd has stronger springs than gassers. I do not need yet the rear springs, the reason I need the front is because I pretty much have all front suspension brand new (arms, tie rods, ball joints, clevis, struts, shocks, bushings, bearings...) and I will assemble the whole strut, then the arms and tie rods and I am done...

Ok, the dealer says the correct part # for crd's front spring is 52128880AA, [ZCK,ZRK]. Price is almost 60 bucks each, got them anyways...

FWIW, and possibly to help someone in the future, Raybestos 585-1385 are $59.00 for the pair from Amazon. They are the proper fitment for the CRD and appear identical to the stock spring. I have 24" verneir calipers and both measured the exact same height (unloaded). It's not a brand I would normally buy but I suspect these are only being produced in a couple places to begin with.

I did some very unscientific testing I neither appeared any stiffer than the other. The new spring may have been a hair stiffer but that really could have been psychological. I replaced them becuase mine had some nasty looking rust and I did not want a lift. I was still tempted by OME though, and may regret not going that route.

If I did it again I would just stick with the stocker springs if trying to save $$$. I also used relatively cheap KYB struts, which I have used with great success on other vehicles. Again, in retrospect, I would probably spend more money on better struts rather than replace coil springs.

My CRD has about 75K and the stock struts were actually in pretty good shape, so while the improvement was noticeable, it was not as remarkable as I was hoping for.

The biggest improvement was airbags in the rear.

My cost breakdown:

KYB struts from Amazon - $180 shipped.
Front coil springs Amazon - $59 shipped
Firestone Coil Rite from AutoAnything - $81.73 shipped

I also ended up needing new upper ball joint nuts. WAY overpriced at the stealer! All in about $330 for what is essentially new suspension all around.

Sonorous, how did you install the rear coil airbags? Id like to see some pics if you could be so kind, I always thought to have some installed and I'd like to see some ideas.
