noticed my alternator pulley was bad....jeep is from the states and is in miles 77k

I am in canada and the dealer wanted $137 plus tax for the pulley

found the part online for about $70 but shipping to canada is $30 plus taxes and duty

started calling around and found carquest has the entire alternator(rebuilt oem with oem pulley) with life-time warranty for $250+tax+$70 core

I went with the life-time warranty from carquest and I can report it was exactly the same as my oem but looked brand new

it is sad that in the states a life-time warranty rebuilt is only $150 and here in canada it is $250 but still the way to go I think

I removed the old one and installed the new one myself(I am no mechanic) in about 30 min....thanks to some tips I read on this site

the best tips were

1/ use a long johnson bar with socket to release belt tensioner ....turning it clockwise....no need to remove fan shroud
2/ use a bungee chord to hold belt tight after removing it from alternator....to keep belt in place around all other pulleys

thanks again lostjeeps
