Installed the new ETECNO 7V Glow Plug Sept 25, ran jeep for a month about 1k miles. Took trip to Phoenix from Kansas City with no problems till I was on return trip home and into the 2nd hr after stopping for fuel I got the CEL for #4 glow plug. I finished my trip home and cleared the codes and then got CEL for glow plug and Relay.

Switched the #1 and #4 glow plugs and now a CEL for both plugs. put on new relay and that code went away, but still have 2 bad glow plugs. Checked the resistance on all the plugs (viewtopic.php?f=98&t=70159) and get .0298 on #3 & #4, no reading on the #1 & #2.

anyone have this problem?

Update:

After checking voltages, I see that there is .05 volts at connector on each glow plug when the ignition IS OFF. When you turn on the ignition, you get 5.68 volts for 3 seconds dropping to 3.78 volts for 10 more seconds.

After further investigation, I found the wiring harness before plug had a wear spot on corrugated cover, pulling it off, I noticed a tiny wear spot on #4 glow plug insulation causing a short to alternator housing. Evidently, when that happens, the glow plug relay shorts out and dumps 12 volts straight to glow plug and burns it up! even when key is off, it reads 12 volts to shorted glow plug! Not to the other glow plugs, just the one that originally shorted out.....

So, when working around the glow plugs, make sure that you have all wire harnesses away from engine!

Dkenny, this definitely sounds funny, but may or may not be a good idea... Original wives can be very expensive... Lol

Either on of those work fine with the 7v gp.
