| Post subject: | Existing 2 Speed Fan Motor Replacement |
I have searched but could not find a post that spoke to my specific question. Does anyone know if you can purchase a new two speed fan motor from the manufacturer or other source and reuse the shroud? Or do I have to just pay the mopar price and purchase the who unit if I wish to avoid modification to get a aftermarket fan to fit? Thanks for your reply posting.php?mode=post&f=5# |

I think you can go away buying a 15 inch electric fan, you'll need to measure the depth of the motor and make sure you get a similar one. A 2 speed fan, direct fit, don't know if exists other than stock. And if there is, its over 100 more than likely. The factory fan is secured on the plastic shroud by 3 screws, most of the fans you get have 4. You may need an adaptive plate in between the shroud and replacement fan. To be honest, I'd just get a 16 inch fan, with over 2000 cfm, make it push air (most come as puller, so you gonna need to just invert the wires, + from fan connect to - on car), make some brackets and you're done. Whole thing would maybe cost 50-150, depending on the fan (that's the single speed), but then you have a full serviceable fan and you won't need to pay those effers from mopar a dime! On the other hand, one speed would be more than enough but you may need to either play with the car switches for those 2 speeds (one is for AC and one for high temp I believe)- which is kind of a hassle to be honest, either put your own switch, separate from car's electrics, a relay and start it that way. What I did, I removed the whole shroud with fan when I installed a transmission cooler, and on the transmission cooler I installed 2 7 inch fans. Way less cfm than the original but I never needed the original and saw a better use of a big transmission cooler. If you want the original, you may have it, but you'll need to pay for shipping of your choice plus a Starbucks, I don't use it anyways and its collecting dust on the shelve. Fan works on both speeds and motor sounds like having still plenty life left in it. Let me know if you need it/pm me. |
