Hey guys. Found out this weekend that my 4wd isn't working. It will lite up on the dash in every mode but just won't turn the front wheels. There is no sound or clunking at all. Next, I think my cv joints are going bad. Do the 3.7 ones work on our crd's. If not where's the best place to source parts |

Does your 4x shift lever have any resistance when you pull it back or does it just "flop" back when you pull it. If the latter see viewtopic.php?f=98&t=69582 |

There is resistance/tension on the lever |

Are you shifting while rolling? |

Yes A little update. The cable is connected and with the help of my dad, the lever does move the tab on the t-case. I have all 4 wheels off the ground. In full time 4wd, the front wheels barely turn if not at all. It takes about 1500 rpm for them to move. Also, when it's in 4wd and tranny in park you can turn the wheels by hand. Is that normal? |

What about part time 4wd? In PT 4wd at least one front wheel should be spinning. |

Part time does the same thing as full time. It takes about 1500 rpm for the tires to turn. |

You definitely have a 4wd engagment problem then. Seems like its something in the transfer case that is not allowing front and rear drive shafts to fully lock together. What about 4-low? Same problem? |

In full-time 4wd, the front and rear driveshaft are not physically "locked" together. In this position the transfer case behaves like all-wheel-drive and the front and rear drive shafts can spin somewhat independantly of each other. You could conceivably stop the front wheels from turning while still allowing the rear wheels to turn and everything would be ok. In part-time 4wd AND 4-low, the front and rear driveshafts SHOULD be physically locked together. Everything, front and rear, should be spinning. If your stop the front wheels from spinning the rears will stop too. The only exception to this is that the front differential is still an "open" diff. So, in any 4wd postion, you may only get one front wheel to spin. If you stop that one spinning front wheel, the other one will start to spin. Is this making any sense? |

My best assessment is that the 4wd low is working like it should. It turns the same speed as the back tires at idle. No throttle needed Yes it's making sense what you are saying. What my jeep is doing is not making any sense |

Thats a good sign. You may just need to keep working the transfer case lever through all postions to get it working right again. For clarification, a few questions: 1. do you have a '05 or '06? 2. while up in the air, can you spin all 4 wheels by hand? 3. while doing all these tests, your ABS light should have come on, correct? |

1. 2005 2. Yes I can turn all 4 wheels by hand when t-case is in full time. Never checked in part time or low. 3. Yes, abs and parking brake light both came on |

Good. Everything else seems to be working fine then. I suspect that if you keep working the transfer case through all positions it will start working properly again. If not, something may be broken inside the transfer case although I have no idea what it could be. Of course, if you havent changed the fluid in your transfer case, new fluid could help too. |

Yeah new fluid is on the list of things to do. It's just odd that I havent heard anything as far as breaking or popping noises. I'm gonna live with it for awhile as my jeep doesn't do too bad in 6" of snow with only 2wd Thanks for the responses |

Does the 3.7 cv axles work in our crd's? If not, what are the part numbers I need? |

don't know the numbers - but the Drivers side CV from the 3.7 will Not work, CRD's is shorter. |

Had the same issue with mine. It worked itself out over time and many miles .... engaging and disengaging the 4wd while going in reverse for a few hundred feet and then redoing it again helped fix mine. |
