Love my '05 CRD, 140K miles. I just replaced the alternator, and while wrestling with the serpentine belt, I broke the plastic elbow on the fuel return line on the #1 injector. Replaced that assembly. It started up & idled just fine. When I drove it, it was normal for the first second, but then the turbo kick never happened. Now it takes a long time (maybe 15 secs) to get up to 60 mph. The tranny goes through all the gears, no smoke, no lurching or hesitation, it just seems like no turbo. So I took off the air hose to the turbo and I can turn the turbo with my finger. Any ideas?

You got air in the fuel system.

Purge your filterhead ( use pump and bleed from the fitting).

It might restore by just shutting off and restarting.

Have you checked the CAC hoses going from the airfilter to the intercooler and then to the intake manifold have not split somewhere?

I had the same symptoms with a split hose except that going up a hill there would be some white smoke.

the vacuum isn't forming to control the vanes in the turbo. DOC4444 talked about this is a thread somewhere.
If the cac's are split I suspect you would get a CEL.

I did not get a CEL but mine is the fixed-vane turbo with a more primitive ECU.

Thanks for all the help. I bled some air out of the fuel filter housing, but it did not help. I double checked the turbo hoses for splits, but they were fine. Here's the story, hope you find some amusement, at my expense. I had to replace the injector fuel return line because a 10 cent plastic fitting broke. My son, who broke it, volunteered to install the replacement, just before leaving town to visit his girlfriend. Well, after bothering you all for ideas, and 3 hour-long sessions under the hood, I finally noticed an empty socket next to the back end of the fuel return line. Plugging the wire back in that my son removed to install the line made the darn thing run a whole lot better. My (our) fault, not the Liberty. Thanks for your help 7 patience. Tomorrow I backflush the heater core to see if I can get some heat and make my wife happier.

That's awesome that it was a simple connector not attached that solved the problem.
