Has anyone ever made their own intake. I currently have the v6 air box mod. I thought about doing away with it and making my own with 3" PVC and attaching a cone filter. I would remove my fog light and pull the air from there.

Would there be much benefit?

Not to be difficult but I had toyed with this also. It seems that the air box plays quite a significant role in trapping dirt - especially if you off road - mine gets quite heavily soiled depending on where I drive of course.
I was planning on stiffening the back edge where the 4 (?) locators engage for the lid as I am certain this is a point of by-pass with the seal of the filters. Planning on testing with a smoke machine soon to verify before I drive in really harsh conditions again.
My plan was to streamline flow and try to keep the ability for particulate entrapment and mount the ProVent in font of the box when the snorkel went in. I operate in conditions where I could not run a cool air intake though.
Cheers.

I made my own with a couple pieces from auto zone. It helped my engine a lot. I had to do some extra fabbing to mount the one sensor that's on the airbox lid. Not sure what its for.
