Chasing down an oil leak between the auto box & engine on a 2.8. I have taken off the support piece so I can see the rear of the oil pan & the botttom of the transmission adaptor plate. There seems to be a hole in the adaptor plate near the bottom with "TDC" cast next to it. If my rear oil seal has gone is this where oil would leak from? Just finishing up an oil & filter change & will run the engine up to confirm, I am hoping its just the oil pan gasket :?

You would get lots of oil coming out between the engine and trans. The flex plate flings it in every direction out of the joint between the two. I had some oil on the ground from it dripping out.

I have some pictures posted in this thread. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=73745

Not sure where the oil leaks from if you have a bad rear main seal. But if it is a oil pan gasket? The engine will need pulled or at least lifted to have room to remove the pan.

Make sure your CCV is working. Any mod you may have on the CCV is open. Lots of people have made CCV mods, only to cause major oil leaks.

Good luck.

seems to be coming from the rear of the oil pan, I have re torqued the bolts I could get at easily, rear ones all got 1/2 a turn or more before they got to the correct torque. Just finished the oil change so will take it out & warm it up to see if it still leaked, certainly doen't leak like 65Corvair's, only get 1 or 2 drips after a run.

This is post cvleanup, but it seemed to be wicking out from the oil pan and coming down the transmission adaptor, certainly not from the hole in the transmission adaptor

Going to read up on CCV checks, still weeping a bit but not by as much.

The CCV is located on top of the intake and has a hose venting over to the turbo intake. This is the factory install. However lots of people mod this so the oil from the CCV is not added into the intake. Some mods are bad and cause CCV blockage, leading to oil leaks. If Factory, keep it that way. Factory install will not block venting.

I have a Provent system, but keep it maintained correctly.

Good luck
