Hi guys. When I preform cold starts in cold weather -20 to +20 F The jeep starts pretty much instantly, but sounds like its missing or igniting late. It does not smoke during these fits. (other than vapor) It takes about 3-7 Seconds for it to run without stumbling. I have no cel or anything. I removed my egr plate to see if it effected anything but it did not. When I use the block heater, this is not a problem. I have the factory glow plugs and relay. I may have a head gasket leak or loose head bolts (coolant into overflow) this was only a problem in the summer when I towed around 9k lb trailer from San Diego to Alaska. I have experienced no coolant loss in the last 3 months. I am using a gde hot tune. Anyone ever experience this? I don't want to waste time and money on the relay or plugs if its not known to remedy.. I have bigger fish to fry. (front drive shaft boot, head gasket) |

I have the same problem like you: At all starts under +10°C (+50 F) my CRD also runs very rough, like on just three cylinders. after a few seconds the engine begin to run round like it should. I ordered now a new glow plug kit and `ll change them. Like your description i sounds like the glow plugs... by, samse |

Seems normal for cold conditions. The CRD is a hard starter in the winter months at times. If a glow plug was failed it would set a CEL. |

The Princess' does the same thing every now and then, excluding the leak. I add some PS (or what ever diesel additive you prefer) for a couple of tank fulls and have her drive it, "briskly". Back to show room fresh after that. |

I would be concerned with the Coolant being pushed to the overflow side of the tank. Sounds like a Head gasket to me! A new HG will prob fix your ruff starting also. Good luck KJJET |

Sounds familiar. The wife heard it for the first time the other day during a -14 start. She says “old Betsy didn’t want to start” I hope that name doesn't stick. |

The abbreviation for that is BJ. That will always fix a ruff start. ![]() |

Alright, thanks guys for sharing your experiences. I had it pegged as normal but thought perhaps someone would say one of the other glow plug configurations or relay would remedy this. |
