Post subject: | EHM Mod Question |
First I want to thank all on this forum for the invaluable info over the years. I have been "lurking" for a long time! I have a white 2006 CRD bought new in Orlando Fl. It has been a great vehicle and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. I have 122000 miles and did the timing belt/water pump @ 120000 miles. At that time I did the EHM ORM mod, serpintine belt tensioner new oil and filters (mobil 0w40) and cleaned the MAP sensor. The Jeep is running great! My question is with the EHM mod. I did it per Sir Sam's instructions and it vents on the drivers side by the front drive shaft. I checked it today and there is no sign of oil and no smoke or vapor when the engine is running. The hose is clear and not kinked. I do have a bit of oil residue under the CCV puck. Do I need to clean the CCV puck? If so how is this done? I'm concerned it is not venting the crankcase. Has anyone else had this problem? |

This motor produces a lot of crankcase pressure. If you bring it up to 1500-2000 rpm and then have someone try to hold their finger over the outlet end of the EHM. If you do not feel signicant air pressure, you did something wrong and have pressurized the crankcase. Rear main seal failure usually results. DOC |

Thanks for the reply. I checked EHM hose end and plenty of pressure at ilde, great pressure at 1500rpm, just no blow by or oil after 2000 mi. Maybe the top end is in good shape! |

It is normal for most KJ CRDs to produce some "smoke" (crankcase vapor, actually) at idle with the EHM, but it can be intermittent. I would not be concerned if you have confirmed that the hose is free flowing and it has no low spots where moisture can accumulate, freeze and block it. Given your intention to keep the vehicle for a long time, I am concerned that you have apparently not been using a Green Diesel tune. At your current mileage, running without one of Keith's tunes, your rockers are probably close to failing. The "ORM" is not nearly as effective as was once thought. I would STRONGLY suggest you read the threads about the "MAF test" and then do it. This is an inexpensive, quick and easy way to check your rocker health. If it shows rocker wear, you need to replace them right away and get a GDE tune to prevent premature rocker failure in the future. (This causes piston to valve contact, an ugly thing.) DOC |

GDE eco tune is next but first I need to recover from the expense of the timing belt/water pump. I'll check into the MAF test. |
