Driving across country from NH to south Texas going through Springfield IL now Im stuck in Brownsburg IN. 2005 jeep liberty CRD. 115k with a rebuilt motor, basically new turbo and a Trans with all the fixes. CCV hooked up and GDE ecotune. Getting 28-32mpg tank volume used vs mileage average. Dash lit up like a christmas tree. Its so cold the hood latch wouldnt release at first. Managed to fiddle with it and got it cracked. Charged battery and started jeep just fine. Kept charging it and was able to pull codes p0560 u0121 p0670 p0513. Found an alternator replacement at Local store in Indiana will be available in the AM. Must've happened during the drive today. Started at -5 and -2 the past few days on the first try. Getting these little engines to warm up is tough. The fan seems like its always on and I've got full cardboard across the front.
At least My failure has nothing to do with the fact that its a diesel. Alternators crap out. Part of owning a vehicle. Will prolly suck to change in a parking lot tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Replacing the alternator is fairly easy, but getting the belt back on can be a big pain in rear if you let it come off too much. Try and keep hooked on the other pulleys during replacement. When I did mine, it to me 15 minutes to r&r the alternator and a good 30-45 min fighting with the belt.

This info saved me a ton of headache and maybe a finger or two it was darn cold!
