Was reading the latest issue of diesel power and it reviewed gale banks new water/meth system and I was impressed with it. The technology has been around since before the 40s, and its becoming more and more popular in the diesel truck market. I already did a search on here and there was only one thread on it, and no body installed one then (2006). So curious if anyone since then has. On an 06 duramax they gained 125hp with no extra fuel. |

I'm pretty familiar with water injection, I've used it on a homebuilt gas turbine I built back in highschool. Its used to raise the mass flow rate of the engine, improving thrust by almost 40%. Truth is most companies and people install the nozzles wrong and don't get a proper mix. I was just curious if anyone has put one on there crd and what difference it made. |

It has been in the back of my head for awhile. I went as far as emailing snow performance and they recommended the TDI kit for our jeep. I still might add it once my 200k service comes up |

I've looked into it. Thought I could assemble my own kit. But couldn't figure out what the right pump and nozzle would be. What about water spray over the intercooler? That could bring down intake air temps. I wonder if it would have the same effect? |

No it will not have the same benefit, spraying the intercooler (CAC) would help some in hotter temperatures but would never come even close to the increases seen with a water/methanol injection system. If you read the article on how it works; the liquid spray absorbs heat when sprayed into the incoming intake air stream and becomes a saturated liquid when it enters the combustion chamber where it is compressed by the piston, it then changes state again from a saturated liquid to a gas (phase change) and when this happens, it contains a lot of oxygen gas which can be used by the ignition process of the diesel fuel which produces more power along with the burning of the added methanol... Sort of like having extra boost without the heat! The saturated liquid actually absorbs so much heat in the process that it actually lowers the EGT leaving the combustion chamber under high load/boost conditions... ![]() It is all a beneficial chemical process taking place! ![]() |

On numerous past turbo installations, i have used a Hopps pressure switches to run a windshield washer pump/reservoir starting with a .020 inch orifice. (copper tube soldered up and drilled) You will feel the difference for sure! Its inexpensive to try out the idea without a big investment. It is useful to install some thermocouples and watch inlet temperatures drop. Measured an 80 degree drop on a turbo Mustang I used to road race. |

The further away from the intake manifold the better, this will allow better mixing with the incoming air out of the CAC and help prevent stratification so all cylinders would be provided the same air/moisture ratio. Probably spraying it into the outlet pipe of the CAC would be the ideal location... ![]() |

Unless I'm wrong again, lol... |

Regarding the wswasher pump, try placing the nozzle in the intake before the turbo---or wherever you think will work. I have never had a problem with this regarding harm to the inlet impeller on the turbo. Remember, I mentioned a .020 nozzle and with some distance before the impeller, the mixture is mostly vaporized before hitting the turbo. Ran this setup on an SCCA turbo Mustang (Cheating!!) and I did it to save the engine more than anything else. A showroom stock turbo Mustang was never designed to go wot for any length of time. The car qualified 3rd w/o the injection on. For the race with water/methanol cooling, on third lap at Brainerd, car was about 1/4 mile ahead of the pole sitter, just to give you an idea of the improvement. On this car the setup sprayed the mixture at the air cleaner intake--before the air filter simply because I was cheating and the class was showroom stock. Not the best setup for sure and it did the job! |
