Updated the list again - Check it at the bottom.

Just an FYI, I think everyone knows this, but the timing belt kit needs to be ordered by you from IDparts.com, I will NOT have any parts with me. Sorry if there is any confusion about that (I don't think there is) but I just don't have the space inside the car. Thanks, looking forward to this trip!

Do you have any other materials that we should buy? Sealant/coolant/grease/anti seize? ?

Dave, what are harmonic balancer bolts and why should I get them? My car lived in Ohio, Pittsburgh, and W. VA until the fall.

Edit, I see they're only $4. I'll probably just add them to my kit.

The harmonic balancer bolts are 4 10mm-headed bolts that are designed to help retain the harmonic balancer pulley on the front of the crankshaft, for CRDs that don't have the chemically-welded corrosion connection that your CRD's balancer probably has.

I can see myself needing to use a BFH to get that off... Guess I should bring a prybar in the kit.

I drain and collect the coolant, but if you would like to change out the coolant, this would be a good time. The drain removes about 2 gallons from the system. I normally don't use anti-seize on any of the bolts, but if you have it, I'd be happy to use it. Thats really about it, I bring all the tools, and Corey sends you the parts... You bring the mistress!

Hi Geordi. I'd like to know if Chicagoland is a confirmed stop on your timing belt run? I've been planning on having the timing belt maintence performed sometime this summer but I may consider bumping it up to spring if you are passing thru town. (10 mins NW of I80 and I55).

Also, can you confirm and/or update the costs for the T/B an W/P labor and the current travel costs? I (and maybe others) would like to be sure that we have a good understanding of the costs. Thanks for reiterating that we must obtain the parts in your recent post. I think that it was assumed but it was nice to have it confirmed (its a long thread to follow).

Thanks...Dave.

Hey Dave, welcome!

Currently, Chicago / Kalamazoo is not assured because nobody has confirmed their place with the deposit from up there. I would be happy to take care of yours, and the same applies - If I get the deposit of $200 then I will add your name / location to the list.

The costs:
Travel cost is $375 for everyone, and currently with the existing deposits, this is still not at a break-even point for me. Take advantage of that.
Labor is $600 for the timing belt and water pump, if you would like anything else done, that can be discussed.
I will send you a PM with the specifics for the deposit that I have sent to everyone.

There is still time if anyone else is considering this, GET ON IT if you are waffling! The chances that I will do another trip this large are not assured. Special trips to people are still possible, but not for this price.

I was just directed to this post from another thread. I live in Prescott, AZ, about 2 hours north of Scottsdale. I could potentially make the trip down there when you're there. Can you PM me some details so I can try to decide if this is what I want to do? I know its getting close to the cutoff date for this stuff.

Let me know! Thanks.

Austin, Texas: 29th of March - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
Austin, Texas: 30th of March - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
Scottsdale, Az: April 2nd - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
LA #1: April 4th or 5th - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
LA #2: 4th or 5th - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.

My conference in Vegas from the 7th to the 10th - This is locked.

Prescott, Az: April 12th - PENDING
Albuquerque, Nm: April 13th - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
Wichita, Ks: 14th - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
Omaha, Ne: 15th, to possibly include Sioux Falls, SD - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.
Chicago / Detroit or somewhere between: 15th? (Check your messages!)
Chattanooga, Tn: 17th - DEPOSIT AND CONFIRMED.

Most folks don't realize how big Texas is, the biggest drive I see in there is Austin to Scottsdale, probably 16 hours with stops.

Albuquerque to Wichita is further than Chicago to Chattanooga too...

By the way, I'm going to try to make it down to Chattanooga, send me the particulars. I'll bring a VM.1085 for laughs!

I'll be in touch about Chattanooga, and don't I know it about Texas - That portion is already scheduled to be more than 1 day, it will be most of that day just getting out to El Paso!

Hello Geordi,
I just found this post. Is it too late to add a stop in Dallas, TX? I would like to discuss this if possible.

Talk about getting in under the wire... It is possible, but I would need to know pronto, and you need to get the order in to IDparts asap.

I will send you a message with details in just a minute.
