Hey guys, looking for some advice here. In the past few days the jeep has been shuddering and vibrating pretty bad when doing any speed greated than 35 mph. Checked the usual things, wheel balance, tire pressure. I has been rediculously cold here lately -35 degress celcius before wind chill for the past month and my commute to work is very short 3-5 miles each way. thought maybe it was just that cold and that all the fluid is that thick that this can be causing the issue but it warmed a bit today and I took her out for a longer ride and let it idle anytime i had to stop somewhere to see if letting it heat up may solve this issue but to no avail. Still have stock TC and it is due for all fluids to be changed, have an appointment wednesday next week for all fluids to be changed. I just did all the u joints on the driveshaft just over a year ago with less than 20000km's on them. regular service always done. I also believe my t stat is on the way out cause i never get much more than just over the first line on temp guage regardless of how long she is run. I have been lucky with very little as far as problems go with this jeep and love this thing but if it's going to start to cost money constantly it may be time for a change. especially considering diesel being more than gas and with the short commute and cold weather my mileage has been terrible. Does this sound like a TC that's on it's way out. Vibration goes away as soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal. No shudder or vibration anywhere in first gear or for the most of second then starts to act up once sppeds reach rougly 30-35 mph and seems to be getting worse over the past few days. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as I find this site way more helpful then anyone around my area regarding these rare units. i have the only one in town..

Hello all. Bringing up this post from the dead as I am having this exact same issue. After much searching I could not find another post with this exact issue. 1st and 2nd seem fine but once I hit 3rd and 4th it causes some nasty vibration. As soon as I let off the gas it goes away... So it must be drive train related.

I am putting in a transgo kit and changing tranny fluid and filters on Friday. Is this a bad TC from the sounds of it? Any input is appreciated!

I've been snooping around this board for the better part of 3 years. Finally posting! Great community here. The search bar works almost 100% of the time! :D

Hard to diagnose from your email. Not that I know what your vibration is, but in my experience a bad wheel bearing can cause a shutter that is worse on acceleration, tends to stop once your at steady speed and feel like its coming from the front drive train, diff, xfer case or even the tranny.

I'm on my third set of front unit bearings, each set has lasted about 60-70k and each time they went bad, I thought it was the front diff or torque converter going bad.

Thanks bugnout for the response. I got it fixed last night! Rear U-Joint on the driveshaft was shot. One of the caps was actually broken and all the needle bearings had fallen out. So that explains why it was worse and worse at higher speeds. Was able to pop the new one in a few hrs with some PBRs and a bench vise thanks to a very helpful neighbor. $20 sure beats a $400 TC! I hope this helps the next guy with this issue.

Fingers crossed for a u-joint on mine.... Same vibrations and I hope to find the same issue. I have a spare uj in the garage. Replaced rear rear one 60k ago and looked like the rear front had been done. Drove 500+ miles last week and it all started made it home shake and bake style slow. 2005 sport 160k green diesel since about 50k. Great rides!
