Can't figure out why the jeep when warmed feels like it is running on 3 in top gear.

Replaced cracked injector washer was gutted it didn't fix it although intake dry and clean now

Has new racor filter head filter, pumps up solid now, after you start it it takes another 5 plunger pumps to go solid.

Just changed alt pulley no birdy under the bonnet now

MAP cleaned but looks pretty sad.

Havent done spill test yet, key dance gives me a low fuel pressure rail error but maybe old from cracked injector washer?

Any ideas?

can you clear the error code & see if it returns?
As said in the other thread changing the rear lines doesn't take long or cost much & would rule that issue out

If you think its air? Install a 2 inch long clear hose at the discharge side of your fuel filter. When running there should be no air bubbles.

Good luck

Thanks I'll try clear hose next, let you know how I get on.

There is the possibility the injector was damaged running on cracked washer for so long?

Have you checked for diesel fuel in your oil?

Unlikely, the injector wouldn't know or care if the cylinder was sealed - it just sprays the fuel when it is commanded to open.

Air in the fuel or a plugged fuel filter are my first thoughts. The button on top isn't really a good indicator of fuel flow.

Try a couple of these on either side of your filter, with or without the little interior filter, they are an easy way to see if there are any bubbles from either the tank or the filter area.

Have you considered fitting a fuel pressure gauge in the spare port in the head?
A 0-15 psi fuel P gauge will do just fine and cost is minimal. Lets you judge when filter is loading and needs changing. They can also "bounce" (needle) with presence of air bubbles

Couldnt find a clear or glass filter at local stores

Got some clear tube, bled the system managed while loosening the bleed bolt it shot off taking the thread from the racor head with it Niiiiiice

When I separated my clear fuel line sprayed both my eyes with diesel. So had a beer.

Gave up

But been for two good drives and no missing yet

For me whoever suggested putting a tee and a valve for bleeding is on to something. With a clear tube you can bleed it see it running with no air. Then turn it off and see air coming up the tube.

At the moment I think the issue was just air. But I bled it well I few different ways and it still had air.

Because I broke the bleed bolt on top I bled it with other outlet bolt. Seemed to work

If it is fixed Thanks for everyones help and the forums help.

Missing again at highway speed, at least I know it is air as its running better and took three big drive before missing again. Will change rear lines and make bleed valve tee above filter

Get a new fuel head

Its a brand new one

The fuel connections back by the tank are probably the leak point. If you get a foot or so of 3/8" fuel line, it can slip over the outside of the plastic lines and get hose-clamped down. I just cut the push-connection out of the factory plastic lines and used the rubber to re-connect the sections.

That was also where I added the "Mr Gasket" fuel pump on the line going to the filter.

Yeah Thanks I agree, and now maybe also where the bleed valve stripped when working on it :banghead:

I think though this is maybe a boring thread for most, I started with thinking I had air in the system, chased 1/2 dozen other reasons, after getting a new filter head and filter, and being able to bleed it up hard, I have ended with the problem more than likely still being air.

I see a few people have run a pipe above the filter through a one way valve and back to to the return line, with a lift pump, self bleeding set up.

Maybe thats my next step

Put a lift pump in in the weekend seems to be running much better with a slight shudder/miss in top gear now.

The wiring under the rear seat had 6 pins going to 4 pins with no colours similar to others that have done it, to wire the lift pump, maybe its an export thing.

Last thing at night I ended up wiring it to one of the plugs that had ignition to it, a plug that wasnt in use near the fuel filter.

Maybe there is a little air in it still, it ran bad at first almost stalling a few times and then got better and better, we will see how long this fix lasts.

Cheers
