Well I bought my Jeep Liberty yesterday and drove it 174 miles back home. The diesel mileage is amazing and its a bizarre vehicle to drive but I love it! Next on my plate, doing a time belt ASAP!

Thanks

This is my daily driver and my family car to transport my wife and kids around in. Maybe once I pay it off I'll do some stuff to it but for now, its going to remain stock!

Yeah, but take the newb guide with a grain of salt, don't blow out your engine seals messing with the CCV like one of the other newbs did. If I were you, I would just change the TB, fluids, clean the MAP and get a GDE tune. I have 2 that work fine with no over engineering.

Actually I wanted to ask is there a way to tell if a Liberty already has the GDE Eco Tune on it? I got 174.9 miles on the first 1/4 tank of diesel driving it back to North Carolina. Now I haven't filled it up yet, but figuring I have a 22 gallon tank, which seems right, that would mean I was getting about 33mpg granted I have not done another fill up yet.

Well if you do the fuel gauge is equally spaced. Also there is a difference on cold start rpm's but I can't confirm the specifics

Best bet would be just to call Keith at GDE and verify your vin number

stock fuel gauge isn't linear, last 1/2 a tank goes much quicker :(

Yeah I'll have to do that immediately then, because I want that tune ASAP just need to get some funds together first for it.

Liberty actually has a 20.5 GL fuel tank. The GDE tune will only make the 2005 liberty tank linear per Keith at GDE. Call Keith at GDE and give him your VIN number. That is the best way to find out. At startup with the tune your rpm's would go to 1000 before settling at 750 but mine does it so fast you don't even notice.

Even on cold starts mine immediately goes to about 750 rpm, even when I got in it this morning and it was about 40 degrees outside. I'll send Keith my VIN and see what he says.

Thanks

Grant,
Are you planning on doing the timing belt yourself or are you going to take it somewhere to have it done? If you are going to have it done somewhere, let me know and I can recommend the place that did my timing belt service. They are off Glenwood Ave not too far from the Angus Barn.

Hey Jim,

I was going to do it myself to save myself the cost of labor honestly. I can get the belt for about 100 bucks online. I'll just switch it out in my garage.

+1, this is my biggest and only disappointment with the tune. I misread the fine print and it didn't register that it wouldn't fix the fuel gauge on my '06.

Honestly Im not too worried about the fuel gauge. I just want to get in the 30mpg range and I'll be happy!
