Good day from South Africa, Thank you for a great source of KJ CRD info. I read through all the catch can (Provent, etc) threads and decided to follow suit. I ordered a 42Draft Design Ultimate Catch Can from the USA. I want to install it between the radiator reservoir and the power steering fluid bottle (right hand drive). My dilemma is that the input port will be approximately 5 cm higher than the CCV outlet. Will this be a problem with oil draining back to the CCV? The length of hose from CCV to catch can is approximately 30 cm. Happy Jeeping Ludi Neethling |

They look nice. IMHO should be ok. That's what the CCV is supposed to do anyway - separate and return the oil. They just don't do it very well. It should just coalesce in the tube and drain back to the CCV puck with the catch can taking care of the rest. This is a much better length too - 30 cm. I've been toying with there too but with the Landrover V8 cyclone instead - I thought of a bracket from the rear mounting screw for the power steering reservoir for one support but I think I need to give it an extra support - haven't figured that one out yet. I like it there as its keeps the hose lengths short and is not in the way nor too near heat sources. How are you mounting? Obviously (unless I'm mistaken) you have that "T" welded onto the body of the can allowing for mounting in two planes. As they are opposing and they should augment one another. |

Hi Auberon, The Turbo heat shield is fastened with a nut at the bottom of this "space". I plan to make a bracket that bolts on there and will enable me to attach the catch can bracket. The "Ultimate's" brackets are separate from the can body and can be fitted at several alternative "angles". What I like about this product, it has a dipstick to check the oil (goo) level and a drain tap to empty it when full. I sure hope it will function as advertised. Apparently the Volkswagen TDI owners use it with great success in Europe and the USA. Regards, Ludi Neethling |

I was concerned about the sturdiness of my bracket, but with the hoses coupled everything is solid.I diverted the CCV hose to snake over the engine just in front of the oil filler and behind the alternator. The return hose from the catch can goes over the alternator and in front of the CCV hose. I cut the Hose that connect to the Air hose in such a way that it could be diverted with an additional 90 degree coupling to receive the hose from the catch can. Regards, Ludi Neethling |

I also used +- 3 meters hydraulic hose 3/4" in diameter, stainless steel hose clamps and two of the 90 degree hose connectors (as used by Jeep at the CCV/Air hose coupling) to connect the hose from the catch can to the Air hose. I used heat shield around the hoses where they pass over the engine. The Catch Can mounting bracket was made with an aluminium tv antennae bracket. I am unsure how to post pics, but I will try. Hi Ludi, could I ask about the heat reflective surrounds on those hoses in your photos please. I take it you added that as an aftermarket thing - as mine (export 06) never did have it form new. Seems a sensible thing to do - keeping that radiant heat from turbos and the like at bay. That infrared end of the spectrum is much more hostile than the temperature of water lines. If it is original it sure is interesting to note the differences in cars that went to different countries. Will let Ludi answer if he wants to about the relay as its his thread - otherwise happy to help. Thanks for you input Ludi. Cheers Auberon |

Good day Everyone, If I am not mistaken that is the glow plug relay (Mopar 56044671 AC). The service manual refers to it as the "Glow Plug Module". Originally it was mounted on the battery tray behind the battery with two plastic pegs that fit into relevant holes on the battery tray. I had to relocate it when fitting the catch can. Auberon, the heat shielding was purchased from a local engine/spares store. It will probably not make that much of a difference but I feel better!!!!! What's nice about the 42DD Ultimate catch can is that it has a dipstick that enables you to check the CCV "goo" level easily without having to dive into the engine. Regards, Ludi Neethling |
