I was hoping to get 2 years out of a set. I don't know if I got a bad set, or if this is common. Last winter, no issues starting. This year, one is gone, and I am having some issues. Maybe because 25% of my glow plugs are dead.

You might get more relevant answers if your more specific about which glow plugs you're using, OE ceramic, OE metal or Etecno1. When I've been one down in the past, specifically OE ceramic, the only way I knew was because the CEL was on.

His signature says 5V GP, which I would assume are OEM.

Yes, 5V OEMS. I picked them up from IDParts. I am going to shoot an email to Corey. With these cold snaps, she isn't starting well in this 0 degree weather. Last year, she started fine.

You sure the Dealer flashed the ECM correctly for the 5 volt glow plugs? :?

Keith put it in the tune.

I had been using the key cycle method with the Etecno 7v and GDE Eco Tune but burned out the #4 plug with this which I replace with one of my OEM ceramics. This is hard on the plugs because each time you cycle it, or the first part, the voltage is at a full 7V, then it tapers off. Now I just turn the key on in cold weather as soon as I get in the vehicle, and let the computer modulate the voltage. By the time I have my seat belt on and am situated, it starts good, even with the recent -20F days we've had.

Keith won't change the voltage of the plugs, if he made your tune with the ECM having 7v plugs then you are still putting 7v on your 5v plugs. you might want to put it back to stock and take it to the stealership to flash the ECM, then make Keith aware so he can proceed with the appropriate changes.

That was my case when I put the tune on my sport (sold). On my limited I'm (so far successfully) running Etecno1 7v plugs.

If that is true, that you have 7v being applied to the plugs... Get the Etecno plugs in there. At least they are sized for the 7v.

Mike - Onecheekrider - Which plug went bad on you? I really hope it isn't the #3... All the others are relatively easy to change.
With so many reports of problems so soon after installing the Etecno plugs, I'm wondering if maybe there was a bad batch sent out from Italy. I don't know if they make any other sizes, but I bought a replacement plug for my TDI from IDparts, and I'm about 90% certain that it is a steel plug. Says it is a Bosch plug on the box, but I'm not certain if there were any major issues like this with Bosch steel plugs in the TDI market. But then again - I also haven't really searched yet, and I haven't installed the plug either. The code went away.

Code is saying #4, I started a thread here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78148

I sent Etecno an email, they responded and said they have had 5 claims of faulty glow plugs this winter, all from the US (more of their response is in my thread). They're sending me a replacement at no cost and I'll probably send the other one back for them to test. Jeep has been starting fine other than the CEL being on.

He changed it and it says in the tune name 5v.
