So I've been testing this ODB device for work made by Delphi sold by Verizon Wireless. It tracks the vehicle and monitors malfunction codes and a few other things. I installed it this past Monday and one of the first pieces of data it asks you to enter is the current odometer reading.
At first I thought this was silly because I figured since this is a GPS based device and it "samples" your movement by taking location readings every so many seconds it would progressively become more and more behind as I drive the vehicle.
What is actually happening is exactly the opposite. Since I installed the unit I've drove about 100 miles according to the Delphi Connect and my odometer says I've driven about 90 miles. That's 10% and a huge discrepancy! I read on hear in the past where some have felt the odometer is a bit on the low side but I didn't think it was that bad!

My Jeep is shod with brand new Cooper Discoverer CTS in 225/75-16's. My odometer is less than .1 miles off in a 5 mile odometer check section. The speedometer reads 1 mph different from my two GPS devices at 75 mph - higher by about 1. When I was using a borrowed DRB-3 to check out my rig, I noticed you can calibrate your odo and speedo by telling it how many revolutions per mile your tires go. most tire companies publish this data publicly. Sadly, Cooper does not on their website.
The tires are spec'd as 29.13 in diameter.
