Did I read correctly that the CRD's have a cat? I had been told that cat's couldn't be used on diesels, because the sulpher in fuel contaminated the platinum catalyst.

Do they have a new kind of cat, or did I misunderstand?

They do have cat's and have had for quite a few years at least on some cars, my '00 NB diesel had a cat.

I've been chasing the biodiesel/vegoil thing for a couple of years.. some of the more enviro- type guys said they had fit cats to their diesels to reduce NOx eminssions - but that using any petroleum diesel would ruin them. Increased NOx was supposed to be one of the downsides to biodiesel use.

I'll have to enlighten them!

I am looking for folks running ASTM compliant and tested biodiesel (B-100) in their CRD and what their experiences have been.

I have ran B100 from this company:
http://www.moyerplumbingandheating.com/fuels.htm
I noticed loss in power and milage, but ran smoother and smelled like fries

Well that's good news abou the new standard for B100, but the company describes a B100 blended with a low sulfur heating oil that has 75% less sulfur. The only thing I see they did incorrect and that is not to say what the mix is, B99, B20, B10, B5, or even B2, they just say B100 blended. Some people will read that add and think they are getting B100 or 100% biodiesel, they should have stated somewhere on their website B10 or whatever.

I ran B-99 for part of a tank but on cold start the cranking time was long and it would fire and die I would have to crank it again and then it would fire up. I topped off with about 5 gallons of diesel and it starts better but still cranked for a long time this mornng but it was cold this morning. I think I need to wait until it is a bit warmer out.

You can get B100 from them. They have a 500 gal. tank in thier shop. The heating oil is B10. Bin there twice, to get 45 Gals. That reminds me time for another run to them.

Here is what you need for that hard starting in cold weather with biodiesel. AVLUBE

Yes but one bottle treats 5 CRD fuel tanks. It would probably be ok to do 2 oz treatments so that is just about $1.25 per tank.

I am on my second tank of B100 and get from a local oil distribution company that gets their supply from a guy in Rome, GA. I was surprised that it was available in my area.
