Haven't seen a dedicated thread on this. Bought my CRD with 104K. Timing belt at 108K and Euro converter at 128K. Now at 136K but having head gasket replaced along with installing ARP studs. Wondering how many miles other forum members have on their vehicles and what major repairs have been done.

GDE - Eco
Euro Torque Converter
Racor 245 filter
New injectors (one bad)
Alternator decoupler pulley
Timing belt
5v glow plugs

Engine died, probable blown head gasket, still taking apart.

Previous repairs
2 sets brakes front and rear
1 Generator decoupler
1 Alternator
2 timing belts
2 accessory drive belts
2 taillights ( they both had bulbs that overheated and melted the wiring)
2 front hubs ( one was bad, I replaced the other just in case)
4 glow plugs ( Etecno)
2 rear wheel speed sensors
1 rear wheel wiring harness
1 upgraded fuel filter head

156k, and no problems with the motor: 8)

5w-40 oil for life
GDE Eco, then Hot Tune
Updated filter head
Magnaflow exhaust
Timing belt/water pump/pulleys at 98k

The rest of the truck: :banghead:

FOUR recalls, two of which were major safety issues... and still counting!
Suncoast converter (typical shudder)
Front tranny pump
Motor mounts (failed)
UCAs (both joints dry/loose/failing)
LBJs (one joint loose)
LF hub (ABS sensor failed)
LH tie rod (joints loose)
Rear U-joint (squeaking)
Intermediate shaft/driveshaft (splines shot)
Rear wishbone (ball joint dry/failing)
Rust through at third brake light
Parking brake mechanism frozen (twice)
Front brake calipers (sticking)

As a counterpoint, our 2002 Nissan Xterra V6/manual is getting close to 170k, with one repair (headliner sag), and one minor recall (fuel level sender).

I think this is typically of American vehicles in general, particularly the SUV's and trucks. Every person I know who has owned a pre-2006 GM truck/suv/rwd van has had most of these issues at one point or another. My parents Astro Van loved to eat ABS sensors which would cause the abs to kick on randomly and cause you to not be able to depress the pedal. We ended up have to pull the abs fuse half the time as to not rear end someone.

Karma bit me arse on this one... not even 3 hours after posting this, my daughter (who has the Xterra at college with her) called to say it wouldn't start.

Eventually, after waiting a half hour, it fired right up and is running fine.......

-Bought it with 164k miles. EGR never bipassed until now :banghead: The turbo has almost 1/4" play front to back, almost none side to side. It's trashed... Will report soon on condition of rockers.
-Viscous heater bearings about shot, some play
-mech fan pulley bearings shot (I deleted it)
-altenator bearings were shot and was replaced by PO
-all suspension bushings were cracked and squishy (I replaced them and ball joints).
It runs like a dream (until turbo explodes, will replace asap), not sure of other previous owners problems.

Mostly standard stuff for the age, minus the turbo...

The Company i work for has one that has right at 180,000 miles on it. I talked to the shop foreman and asked about what all had been done to it when i saw it in the plants vehicle shop the other day. He stated it was in for it's 4th turbo. I asked about the timing belt, if it had ever been changed? He said he didn't think so, we talked a little about that and he had suggested it to the boss and was told to just let it break. I think they are tired of having to mess with it all the time. I'm pretty sure they have had to deal with all the typical issues that come with these Jeeps based on our conversation and with the 4 turbos, window regs, fuel head, torque converter, ball joints, and hoses i think these boys would like to see it gone from the fleet. I'd love to pick it up for a song before the belt breaks but if it does i might get it dirt cheap. Since reading how expensive and what can break when they do go south i might have some bargaining knowledge on my side. Time will tell.

As for my Jeeps, i have two both 05's one limited and one sport. The limited my daughter is driving to college and it has 76,000 on it. It was bought with 53000, not done anything to it except unplug the MAF. The Sport has the MAF unplugged at 83000 when i just bought it last Aug. It now has 90000 on it. It had the turbo replace along with hoses and inter-cooler at the dealer of the guy i bought it from, luckily it was a one owner so i knew what i was getting. I'm not driving it much till i get the parts to do the Belt and associated parts for that job. I'm waiting on the new designed T-stat from Jeff B. and hopefully if i get some tax refund i'll be buying from Id-parts the belt replacement kit, eco tune from GDE for both jeeps, then plan on a belt replacement for the other. Whew! sounds like a lot of work ahead of me. I just hope nothing swarms before i can get it done. LOL!

I wonder if a new turbo is needed when the VVT sticks?

220,000 miles now.

Timing belt, idlers, tensioner, coolant change at 100k and 200k
Turbo hoses at about 100k after one failed
Tstat failed open at about 120k. Installed inline housing and aftermarket tstat
GDE Eco tune at 141k
Motor mounts at about 145k. They were really noisy.
A/C compressor at 156k
Rear main seal at about 150k. Had euro TC installed at the same time.
Water pump at 200k (no leaks, just replaced during TB change)
Etecno glow plugs at about 200k (I hate them). No problems with the ceramics, but I wanted to get them out.
Alternator at about 205k to stop decoupler noise
Front driveshaft at about 215k. Rear CV joint disintegrated. Scared the crap out of my wife when it happened driving down the freeway.

I love this vehicle. I just saw the first trace of rust where the A-pillar meets the roof on the drivers side. I'll take care of this in the spring. I also see some trans fluid on the transfer case so it probably needs to be resealed.

I think the average Crd driver (and turbo diesels in general) are not educated at all about turbo cool down. A properly cooled down turbo should last easy 200k if not more, provided the oil changes are rigorous...

Glow Plug broke and went thru engine at 8200 miles...Jeep replaced whole engine including turbo.

GDE Hot Tune at around 60,000 plus I did the original LOST EGR Bypass (developed by LOST Member) a bit before the GDE

Have replaced:
1 CV Axle Front
Front Driveshaft
U-Joint
Rear Pivot Arm Bushings
OME Lift
1 glow plug
Ball Joints twice
timing belt at 125,000

Still on Stock TC with GDE Hot Tune...fingers crossed

Next to Do's:
TC Replaced and GDE Turbo Upgrade (maybe freshen up top end)

Otherwise, has been very good to me...added a vinyl job to make it "new to me"

Also added some decals to wheels for some extra umph:

I bought my crd with 166000 miles. I love this jeep but I now have 172k
And I have changed the thermostat and I have 2 glow plugs burned out. Plus my dash lights look like a Christmas tree due to an abs sensor is out. Don't know which one yet.

I have 4 new glow plugs here just waiting on ordering a egr bypass kit since I have to take it apart to change the glow plugs.

We will see what happens next. But it runs good and I like it. Seems to be losing some power lately though.
