When performing an oil pressure test on the CRD, is it common for the gauge reading to bounce around a lot?

The gauge never read lower than spec, but bounced around more than normal with other cars.

Is this just a normal quirk of the 2.8l diesel?

Mine does not bounce. 17 psi steady at hot idle. Around 35 at 2000 rpm. Exact number escapes me right now. Rotella 5w-40 oil.

I use the same oil. Thanks for the feedback.

Are you using a mechanical gauge? Where are you tapping in? Mine is electrical, in the factory location, so that could be the difference.

Yes, a mechanical dial gauge. I am reading at the oil sensor/sender port.

Needle bounces around a lot, but never read low.

You might have an air bubble in the gauge.

Now I am thinking it is a bad oil filter. I'll change it and see what happens.

I replaced the Napa Platinum filter with an OEM Mopar filter, and the oil pressure was much more stable.

I guess I got a bad Napa filter.
