Post subject:  Actron 9575 on a 2005 CRD?

Well, so I've searched all over, and I see people mentioning Actron OBDII Scanners working on an 05 CRD, but no model numbers. Has anyone used the Actron 9575 with good luck? I want to make sure that I can check oil pressure, tranny temp, and I guess the condition of the rockers? Is that MAF number an accurate condition of the rockers? My engine went 164k with active EGR before I bought it, so I really want to know before I do the timing belt, so I can just keep going if they're trashed :furious:

Many thanks for any advice :JEEPIN:

I've never used the actron, but have read all of the above using torque pro for android and a cheap elm327 Bluetooth dongle.

Ah, ok, thank you. I got rid of my droid with my free company i-phone (I'm a cheap sensored word), but I also meant to ask if anyone knew a better alternative that could check all the engine data, and check/reset codes for $110 or less. That's how much that Actron is at Summit.

Is there any other way to use the droid software, like from a laptop to accomplish the same feat for a lot less $$?

I can't wait to report on the condition of my rockers after so much soot/EGR time :grim:

I believe torque is only for android. I bought a kindle fire used for $99 and put the android OS on it. Then bought a $13 cheapo elm327 for $13. Torque pro is $5. That's only $116. I'm sure you can get an android tablet for less than $99.

:pepper:  Thanks again, and from what I read online, it says that I can download the app to a computer, and then to my old android phone, and hopefully skip needing data/ an active contract. Hopefully it works, $5 app plus $13 dongle sounds a lot better than $100! Have you had any luck checking and resetting codes? Google says at least some people have.

Torque pro can delete the codes, at least what I had. I think it can only delete ecu codes, but others may have a better answer. I have actron 9580 and crd doesn't like it. The Cherokee works with it just fine. Ironically, actron 9125,the very cheap one, works with crd.

I'd stick with torque pro, you can also read some of the sensors like map for boost, etc.

Oil pressure your going to have to tap into a pressure port with a mechanical gauge and so far only the DRBIII/StarScan can show you trans temp(or some high end snap on scanners,$6000+).

That little oil light is just a low pressure sensor, not a actual pressure sensor.

Many thanks for warning me about the 9575. I'll definately go the torque pro route now. Hmm, I wonder with the Oil Pressure Gauge Mod where else I can easily tap into for the pressure reading? I'm never removing the sender I installed unless it fails (really tough to get to), and it needs calibrated to actual pressure. I set it at 10 psi at warm idle as a guess, but since my engine has seen soo much soot, I'm really hoping to get an accurate reading soon, just incase the soot ate the oil pump. I wonder if that's likely?

Thanks again fellas

Mountainman, PM CATCRD he installed a bunch of gauges and I bet he can give you some pretty good tips.

Be careful with which OBD adapter you buy. I have Torque Pro and an cheap ELM327 adapter that I bought off amazon. It only recieves a few readings(rpm and throttle %) from the OBD II port. I have a check engine light which I know is the EGR and when i scan using torque I get nothing and cannot clear the codes. It sounds like some work and some dont so I would definately recommend that you read reviews and verify that it works with the ISO9141-2 Standard.

These two units below are a bit more expensive, but they are considered the gold standard when it comes to bluetooth adapters and are specifically recommended by the guy who created Torque. I think our jeeps are a bit finicky so I was planning on picking up the 2nd one(green) just to make sure it works well.

Many thanks for the links and warning! I really like the fact that the second one you posted can be used with a computer. I'm going for it also.

Is anyone here using one of these pricier adapters on a CRD? Does it work for longer than 20 minutes or does it always hang around then?

I'm watch the Launch X CRP 129 , seem to be capable to read and test A/T engine , ABS & SRS , what did you think ?

and this seem to be capable of reprogram speedometer and tire size other than shoot down the TPMS mil , for what i've read

Hmm, that one is too rich for my blood.
anyone able to tell if ScanTool 427201 OBDLink LX Bluetooth OBD-II Scan Tool Interface can change tire size? I read all over and can't figure it out. It just says "and lots more functions" or something like that.

Post subject:  Re: TouchScan or SoftScan

Does anyone have any experience using TouchScan or SoftScan or a similar product that can be used with a Laptop computer to monitor and read real time data PIDs? I have the interface cable to use between the OBDII port and the Laptop USB.
Please post your thoughts or ratings of the software.
thanks,

In between sits AutoEnginuity not DRBIII or the android but about in the middle.
AE does access the other modules but most dongles plugging into the DLC will only give engine stats.
Luckily, I haven't had to explore just how far AE will actually go.
Still expensive (relatively) though.
I do like the capabilities of that unit Yeti pointed out though - seems to go a bit further - but Yeti is very good in this regard.
Will add to the repertoire later maybe.

Post subject:  Re: Actron 9575 on a 2005 CRD?

Well, I finally got the obdlink lx ordered and hooked up, and I got the best news since I've had this jeep. My MAF readings are right in the 135-140 range! I wasn't able to get an mpg read out yet, but I did get temp and gallons per hour of fuel. 164k miles with active egr may have eaten the turbo, but the rockers seem to be fine. I'm thinking that often oil changes may have been the key to rocker wear, and the turbos just can't handle the soot well at all...? Hopefully this helps someone decide on a scan tool.

Post subject:  Re: Actron 9575 on a 2005 CRD?

Suggested by the previous post, why can't I get a good mpg reading? I have torque pro, and cheap adapter from Amazon. I can see boost, speed, oil pressure, etc. But for mpg I always see 255.
