Has anyone else noticed there CRD surge at about 137 to 139 F when driving at a steady speed? The viscous heater is disabled on mine. I wonder if the GDE tune changes the injection timing at the 139 F temp? Are the glow plugs glowing until water temp reaches 139?

I believe that engine efficiency, power, and throttle response increases when the engine warms up above a certain temperature.

I do feel it when my temp gauge reaches the half way mark and I've been driving for 5 minutes or more.

I think this is pretty true of all tunes. I believe the engine is boost limited or fuel limited in the tune until it gets up to a certain temperature. I know that mine is pretty sluggish until it gets warm.

You are feeling the switchover from twin pilot injection to single pilot. Single pilot has a little more juice to it. The twin pilot is part of the warm-up mapping we did not change from factory. Twin pilot helps reduce noise and single pilot helps improve fuel economy.

Not all tunes do this. We are the only ones that I am aware of modifying pilot injection events for fuel economy.

I always wondered what that strong, seat in the pants felt change was all about when reaching the 1/4 mark on the temp gauge.
While driving, I always wanted to ask this question.
But with my short memory, I could never remember to ask once I'm in front of the computer

Very cool! Is the engine limited in other ways at lower coolant temps in any other way on a stock tune? Or is that sluggish feeling just because the oil and everything else is cold?

Yep always noticed it at 140 and chalked it up to GDE.

That's answered an aspect of the tune on paper that I've been wondering about.
I am now convinced to give Stu (the guys at GDE will understand that point) a call and place an order.
It seems all but a couple of rudimentary questions have now been answered as I wasn't quite sure how to ask it - given I haven't driven a KJ with the GDE tunes fitted and am only working off (having re-graphed the number GDE supply in imperial to metric - it takes on a slightly different shape when metricated) and the clutter is removed to just the numbers on the tune. I tend not to listen to here-say.

I was a tad concerned about the differences between fuels and EGR behaviours between the US and Australia but the agent here has been reliably sending feedback to GDE for some time now and it is proven as has Glend (I believe) who was the test car here. I do not know that we have that information available here for our conditions.

I was planning on running the Speedtracer (need to find a spot I can do this first) for my stock tune - no F-37 and then with the DP chip switched on to the optimum tune I've found for economy and then again with the GDE tunes so I'm not running on just my woohoo opinion.
