I got my engine all back together after rocker replacement and started but it is making either a ticking or a air noise can't decide. I tore it back down thinking it was a rocker that may have gotten out of place but all were in place. The only thing I can find wrong is the #4 injector oring was torn. Would the oring or maybe something interfering with the washer sealing ablity cause it to blow out the oring make a ticking or maybe an air noise? My first guess to as what the noise sounded like was air not a tick. Looking for some input before I say that was it and put it back together.

The o-rings are just dust and filth seals, they also help to hold the injectors centered in the bore. They wouldn't cause or prevent any kind of noises. If you have the thing apart again already, do yourself a favor and use a shotgun bore cleaning kit (use the fat and skinny mops) drenched in brake cleaner to wash down the complete injector bore and hole at the bottom. They aren't held closed by much pressure, so you want them to be squeaky clean. The O-rings can be sourced from Home Depot in the plumbing section if you want. Those are silicone and a fine replacement option for that dust seal. (I usually keep at least one of the multi-box sets around for general O-ring replacements. it's like $10 for about 100 in assorted sizes with a guide) Ticking is a lot different from air noises, and uneven combustion from the air purging from the fuel rail can cause "interesting" sounds and results for a few minutes after you get it running again. Good luck with it. |

I tend to agree with Geordi. Your issue is probably more related to air in your fuel because of how long you had the system apart. When I did my first set of rockers and lifters I had the intake apart for days waiting on all my parts, and when I put it back together I was sure I did something wrong, that there was a rocker or lifter issue because of the tapping/clicking/pinging sound I was hearing when I started it up. It was all air in the fuel and after it ran for a bit all put together, it was fine. It's scary stuff the first time, I'll admit, but once you get used to it and hear those sounds it's no big deal. I nearly took mine back apart too for fear of something wrong. I definitely understand your position. Keep bleeding the fuel head, put it all the way back together and let it run for a bit, you'll see. If you had a bad crush washer (You did replace all 4 of those didn't you?) then it might be sucking air there, but it would be "spitting air" as well and making all kinds of fun noises, I had my first run-in with that about 8 weeks after the rocker/lifter change out. [Guess I didn't clean it enough and ensure a good seal like Geordi was also talking about] Most of the advice guys like he and I give are from bad experiences, I know you can't learn from other people's mistakes or misfortunes, but try. |

I think the ticking was from the injector not being sealed at the copper washer. Escaping pressure tore the o ring and made the sound. Check under the injector crow's foot for the steel insert that bears the force against the head. |

Did you keep all the lifters up right, or in oil while you had it apart? |
