the alternator on our CRDs is it different from that of the gasser? I have read its got its own internal regulator more like a standard alternator, not using the PCM for this function? Looking to do a high output alt but want to be sure i do it right. Spoke to mechman about one and they say its a standard alternator just like on the chrysler minivans but i dont seem to see that looking around, seems the gassers use the same one but the diesel uses something different?

I cannot tell you what the output of the CRD alternator is, whatever it is it's more than adequate, nor can I tell you what other alternators can be installed if more output is desired. What I can tell you is the CRD alternator is not the same as the gasser. The CRD alternator is PN 56044672AB alternatives Autozone Duralast 15457 and AdvanceAutoParts PN 12668 according to my notes and the latter may run about $150 with a lifetime warranty. The alternator is pretty durable, the front pulley somewhat less so.

I think its 155 or 165 amps. If you don't have a bunch of electric demand (lights, winch, etc), the alt is pretty good.

Mean Green doesn't seem to build one, but if you can find out what cars use same alt, please let me know.

I bought a rebuilt alternator from http://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/ 3 years ago for my 07 Grand Cherokee CRD...stll works perfectly. This vendor has a great reputation, great prices, and fast service.

Yes, according to a post I shared with Keith from GDE a while ago....the CRDs from 2005 upwards use an alternator with a built in regulator as appossed to the gassers which continue to have the voltage regulated by the PCM.

Output is supposed to 136 amps I believe. Those with a gasser Renegade had outputs of 160 amps. If you search online, there may be old spec sheets out there that list this.

Yes but this will not help the OP as he would need an alternator with a built in regulator...the Gasser Renegade will get its regulation from the PCM.

Keith at GDE will have the correct answer to this!

The alternator is definitely different than the gasser. I don't think this alternator is used on any other Jeep/Dodge/Crystler. The CRD has a decoupling pulley instead of a solid pulley.

If you are planning on using a lot of amps, you might want to consider a dual battery setup instead of a bigger alternator.

I wasn't stating a Renegade alternator will work. I just remembered what the outputs were. There used to high output alternators on eBay, but I haven't looked lately...not to say they would work, but they claimed it was CRD specific at the time.
