Post subject:  Lift Pump - Voltage Under Left Rear Seat??

I am in the middle of installing an Airtex pump in my fuel tank. I've got everything torn apart in my garage - the new pump is in the tank. I'm now working on the wiring portion of the job.

My problem is this: I'm only getting between 3 and 5 volts at the end of the connector under the rear seat.

I have verified that my meter has a good ground - I get 12 volts when connect to the battery (and my ground).
I have verified that my power distribution center has a 10A fuse in F17 and a relay in F38. I even switched out relays to rule out a faulty relay. I also verified that I get NO volts when either the fuse or the relay is removed.
I get 3-5 volts for about 25 seconds after switching the ignition to run. Don't know what the voltage is when the engine is running because fuel tank is disconnected.

Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? I am a bit stumped.

Assuming you have the right wire back by the rear seat (see http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/kennedy.htm) I can say the the duration of current when the ignition is switched on but the engine is not running appears to be correct. As the the voltage I don't pretend to understand that issue well enough to comment other than I'd guess a meter to ground issue on the assumption you should have 12v or close to it back there.

papaindigo, thanks for your response.

I'm pretty sure I have the correct wire. It's the blue/orange wire. It's the only wire/pin in that connector that briefly comes on when the ignition is switched on. I double checked my ground and even filed ALL of the paint off. I'm grounding to the tab next to the connector. I tapped it for a 1/4-28 screw and filed all of the paint off of the surface.

Problem Solved!

I had a faulty fuse that was broken - not blown. The internal portion was making enough contact to allow a small voltage to leak through. New fuse fixed the problem.
