So I'm looking at a 2nd CRD for the wife, and it runs for a few seconds, or a minute or two and dies. I'll have eyes on it next weekend, and I've got permission to check turbo play, MAF reading, and anything else I want. Really low miles, around 80k, and loaded with leather and really clean.
Any advice on what may be wrong, what codes to be scared of, and what else to check would be greatly appreciated! He thinks it's a fuel injector pump rail sensor or the pump itself. Whats a pump, $800?

Thanks for reading

If SKIS anti theft is installed and you start the engine with a blank key or a wrongly coded chipped key....the ECU does not recognise the SKIS code and will let you start the engine but will cut off after a few seconds. Maybe this is your problem although I doubt it will run for a few minutes in this case.

Normally the the SKIS light on the cluster goes ON when ignition is turned ON and if the ECU recognises the SKIS code then the light goes out after a few seconds and all is well.

If the ECU is not happy with the SKIS code then the SKIS light on the cluster does not go out but flashes continously.

More likely to be air in the fuel filter which can be fixed....try giving it a good prime....or cam or crankshaft sensors.

You need to get the codes read out. The pumps are pretty robust from what I have read on the forums.

Try swapping the ASD relay with an identical one next to it. :?

I will guess that it is the crank position sensor.

Could also be a plugged fuel filter.

Both of the above are cheap fixes. I don't think the cps throws a check engine light, but it might leave a code. Make sure to take a scanner with you to read the codes.

ok, many thanks  That gives me some more stuff to try, and it doesn't sound like anything too expensive is trashed. I tried to look up the pump, but there is a huge range in prices, and I don't know if the ones that are listed for other vehicles are interchangeable with ours. More searching :JEEPIN:

I recall you were asking about code readers a while ago- if you're going for a second KJ then it might be worth looking at AutoEnginuity or the like With 2 of these cars you may well get value for money out of the Full version. I know it stretches your budget but you might be able to talk the seller down with assurance if you know what your in for and servicing issues are a lot easier. They aren't perfect but worth considering.

Good deal, I'll check out that scanner, many thanks :pepper:

Thanks, FLman, I'll see what GDE has to say when it gets tough. :JEEPIN:
