This model includes carrier bearing support. Anyone have any experience as to whether this may help the MOPAR 8.25, which is not the most robust of diffs, live a little longer?

We have a KJ CRD which is modified and puts out about 390 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheels on the chassis dyno.

Gears are OEM 4.3 and on recent inspection, look good. A Detroit Tru-Trac is being installed and the R&P is being REM processed. SWEPCO 212 (80W-140 multigrade dino with moly) is the gear oil.

(BTW, with MOPAR synthetic installed and only about 30K miles on the unit (after a warranty replacement by our local Jeep dealer) the carrier bearings started getting noisy. After checking the gears and finding them fine, we replaced the fluid with SWEPCO 212 and after 2 months, the bearing noise is completely gone. However, the clutches in the Trac-Lok are shot, so it is time to put in something that will last longer, namely a Tru-Trac.)

Want to do everything possible to make it live as long as possible.

Thanks in advance.

The one pictured in your link does not have the carrier bearing supports. It is the cheaper one without that.

Rich, does yours have the supports? If so, are they adjustable?

Rich, any opinion as to how effective the supports look like they may be with this known somewhat weak diff?

The 8.25 is not by anymeans a weak diff. It's on par with a D44 for strength, the weak link is the c-clips and using synthetic gear oil(which burns up the pinion bearings).

Mine came with no instructions. How did you set the support bolts?

You know what mine never hit bottom so I just put them all the way in. I'm going to check with them on Saturday on it.

Could you measure the length of your bolts and post them? My cover should arrive today. I wonder if you got the wrong bolts.

Just received my G2 cover. The carrier support bolts are 3 1/8" long. Are yours different? I spoke with someone from G2. They said the bolts should simply be screwed in until they "rest" on the bearing carrier with the diff cold, NOT torqued.

The installation instructions that were emailed to me by G2 indicate, "Remove the main cap retainer clip bolts, replace with the G2 aluminum standoffs and socket head bolts, make sure clips remain engaged, and torque to 20 ft lbs (Not all applications will have standoffs, only adjustable carrier style)." However, my cover did not come with these additional parts.

My transmission guy, on inspection of my cover, indicated the support bolts should be torqued to 20 ft lbs.

What do you think?

G2 indicated the parts referenced in their instructions do not exist for the cover we have.
