Assistance needed please.
I tried search but am not fully satisfied.

Lately i have been having a huge noise from the drivetrain. I opened up the front diff plate. The bearings all look/feel fine. There is more back lash than i like but no excessive where marks on the gears. I closed it up with new oil.
I had a bad oil leak on the oil cooler (545 rfe) which I now replace with an aftermarket cooler.
It use to overheat a lot, so bad the shift points would change to high rpm.

It was better for a small while after I topped up the gearbox fluid.
Now it is bad. I hear a high pitched noise whilst driving yet cant find anything wron with front brakes. All shafts feel good. U joints and cv's.
when i stand still idling there is no noise.

It could be the diff. But what about trasfercase?

The wife believes the noise is coming from the front. When I get home later, i will disconnect the front shaft and try again.

Please help me identify it.

Thanks

Could it be tires? What kind a tread do you have? Did you try front to rear tire rotation to see if it changes things?
