What's required to replace the ECU? Is it VIN specific? (must be for that specific vehicle)?

Best bet is to email Keith at GDE. An individual ECU has to be programmed to be VIN specific among other things but I know a good used ECU can be reprogrammed to a different VIN. What I don't know is what DCJ ECUs can be used with proper programming on a KJ CRD.

Buying a computer off eBay is an idea, but it is unusable if you don't have the ability to program it. Keith can program it for your VIN number, which will make it compatible with the car's other controllers and then you can drive with it.

The TCM however, is not specific to the vehicle, those can be swapped in without programming, if they are from a compatible vehicle. I personally tried the RAM TCM option that had been floating around... It worked, but I wasn't happy with how it shifted. Too firm for my tastes.
