Solid pulleys are available either oversize or the same diameter as the clutch pulley for the CRD. I got one to reduce the noise under the hood and discovered that my clutch pulley was rusted. Generators usually cannot charge a battery during slow driving but alternators work during slow driving.

If I understand correctly what you mean by "solid pulley", using one in this application is a really really bad idea, and will likely result in the failure of your belt tensioner, and probably belt as well. There have been incidents where it also results in the loss of the timing belt and major engine damage when the serpentine belt remnants were stuffed in behind the timing belt cover at the crankshaft location.

This application needs to have the overrunning clutch pulley on the alternator to prevent this.

A solid alternator pulley will cause additional strain and wear on both the serpentine belt, idler pulleys, and especially the tensioner pulley along with the cam belt, its idler pulleys, and the cam belt tensioner. It can also cause the engine mounts to fail and rattle at idle. :grim:
The override alternator pulley smooths out some of the 4 cylinders engine pulses at idle. Same reason this engine has a balance shaft in it to smooth out some of the vibrations...
